El Cajon CA Obituaries and Death Notices
Monday, November 21, 2016I know that they didn’t mean it. … Clearly this was something that the diocese would never ever approve.”While the bulletin cites “The Voters Guide for Serious Catholics” from El Cajon-based Catholic Answers Press to claim that voting for a Democrat results in eternal damnation, the guide references neither Democrats nor Republicans, and says voting by political party is an ineffective way to align with Catholic teachings.“Do not just vote based on your political party affiliation, your earlier voting habits, or your family’s voting tradition,” the guide says. “Years ago, these may have been trustworthy ways to determine whom to vote for, but today they are often not reliable. You need to look at the stands each candidate takes. This means that you may end up casting votes for more than one party.”The Clinton-as-Satan comment was in an article from the Oct. 30 bulletin headlined “Voting Catholic” that discusses contemporary issues that Catholics have long stood against like abortion and same-sex marriage, plus ones that Eckery said are not a part of Catholic teachings and out of line with diocesan policy. The article, which was written in the bulletin and not an insert,...

Tim LaHaye, evangelical author of 'Left Behind' book series, dies at 90 - Washington Post
Monday, August 01, 2016While preaching at Scott Memorial Baptist Church in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon, Dr. LaHaye formed Californians for Biblical Morality, which encouraged evangelicals in the state to become politically active. The group drew the attention of televangelist Jerry Falwell, who enlisted Dr. LaHaye to help form the Moral Majority organization that supported Republicans Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush before dissolving in the late ’80s.At the same time, Beverly LaHaye founded Concerned Women for America, an evangelical group that claims to be the largest women’s public policy organization in the country. After Dr. LaHaye retired from preaching in 1981, he struck upon the idea for the books that became his larger legacy. Jenkins between 1995 and 2007. The books sold more than 80 million copies and spawned a direct-to-video trilogy of films, as well as a 2014 reboot starring Nicolas Cage. They also spawned a series of young adult novels, “Left Behind: The Kids.”Falwell told Time magazine in 2005 that the impact of “Left Behind” on Christianity was “probably greater than that of any other book in ...
