Monday, June 19, 2017He was very successful with J.C. Penney, and received the Presidents Cup award in 1980 and the South East Regional award in 1994 when he was the store manager in Orangeburg. Jerry loved to travel, play golf and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends, and was the hunt master and honorary lifetime member with the Pine Barren Hunt Club in Ridgeland. Saturday, June 10, 2017Lalo Lynn Lenny Navarre was born on August 18, 1980 in Orange, Texas and passed away suddenly on May 29, 2017 in Banebridge, N.Y.Lynn is survived by his only son, Lakota Navarre; the mother of his child, Annie Navarre and his longtime girlfriend Cecelia Ryan Chavis; his sister Barbara and her partner Cami; brothers Fernest Jr. and Nelson Allen Navarre; brother Brian (and wife Johanna) and brother Kapono Jacob; his mother and father-in-law Matthew and Ernestine Jacob and his grandmother Barbara Duncan. Saturday, June 10, 2017Kevin Lawson’s father, Rick Davis, still has many unanswered questions about his son’s death Monday at Fiamma.Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said former employee John Neumann, 45, entered an unlocked door at the Forsyth Road business around 8 a.m. Monday armed with a handgun.Davis said investigators told him that Neumann killed manager Robert Snyder first because he sat next to the door.Then Neumann turned his gun on Lawson, shooting him twice in the head and six more times in the body, according to Davis.He wonders why the business didn’t have tighter security, especially after Neumann was fired in April and there was rumor that he may retaliate.“I’m not trying to pass blame,” said Davis. “There wasn’t any heightened security. Her daddy took her to her first game in 1946 and from then on she was a “big orange” fan, seeing many games, home and away, and bowl games.She looked forward to the beautiful falls in East Tennessee and Tennessee football.Mary graduated from Greeneville Business School in 1951, then was employed in Rock Hill, S.C.In 1956 she started working at Pet Inc. (milk), retiring in 1995.She loved to travel, seeing new places and familiar ones. The ocean from Key West to Nova Scotia, the Pacific and the Mediterranean Sea and spending time at Surfside, S.C., with family were special.She felt blessed to have a son: Mike Cooper and his family, wife, Joette, and their children, to whom she was “GranMary,” Ben Cooper, Rae Elizabeth Cooper and Jake McAmis; great-grandchildren: Kennedy Tyler and Boone and Knox McAmis, who all survive her. She is also survived by several cousins, including two special cousins: Sadie Weems and Martha Fletcher; and a sister-in-law: Josephine Cooper.The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-7p.m. Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. So there will be another Ching Ming ceremony in September.“Growing up in Western society, we lose our connection. This gives us a way to connect with our culture,” said Yau Kung Moon’s Johnny Leung, visiting from Australia.“The whole family will gather together and go to the grave to clean it, bring flowers, gather together and talk,” Truong said. Given the brief time they have been in the country, with few graves to tend, such celebrations often are held at home or at temples, she said.Truong tapped a small drum and chimed a bell at intervals in the chanting. She was accompanied by the group’s leader, Quang Truong, who chimed a small gong as he led the chanting from a position at the altar’s left side.Across from him, Minh Truong kept a rhythm on the serrated scales of two wooden fish, called mokugyo or muyu. A few feet farther from the altar, at his right, Thanh Quach chanted and sounded a small set of cymbals.
