Mr. Stanley L. Newton, age 63 years, of Lawrence, Kansas, a former Jefferson City resident passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 in Orlando, FL.Stan was born February 23, 1954 in West Plains, MO. a son of Delbert Eugene “Gene” and Maggie Belle (Smith) Newton. He was married on March 3, 1972 in Springfield, MO. to Sara Strong and from this marriage his two children were born, Aaron and Courtney. Sara and he remained friends to this day. He was a 1972 graduate of Jefferson City High School and had many lifelong friends through his class. Stan was employed in the energy sector his entire professional career, which spanned over 40 years. He was currently employed as a Senior Originator with Westar Energy, based out of Topeka, Kansas, but he traveled the country working with clients. Before his career with Westar, he had worked with Missouri Power and Light (while living in Jefferson City and Moberly), Associated Electric (while living in Springfield), and Cargill (while living in Madison, Wisconsin and Minneapolis, Minnesota). In 1969, she and her husband Bill moved to Florida and resided there for 30 years, where she was very active with Conway United Methodist Church, Orlando, and volunteered at an elementary school, where she enjoyed working with children. She and Bill then moved to Felton, where she was a member of Sandtown Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed flowers, crafting and making Christmas ornaments, calendars and quilts. Although distance kept them apart, she always enjoyed hearing about the activities of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.A loving Mom, Granny, Great-Granny and Great-Great-Granny, she is survived by daughters, Audrey L. McDaniel (Bobby) of Damascus, Md., Patricia A. Blacksten (Dick) of Denton, Md.; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hann of West Palm Beach, Fla.; stepdaughter, Beverly Metcalf of Alaska; stepson, Caroll Main (Kathy) of Felton; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nina U. Martin of Sykesville; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by a son, Hayden M. Hann Jr. on Nov. 24, 2016; a great-grandson, Tristen Monroe; a great-great-granddaughter, Alaina Elizabeth; seven sisters; and three brothers.Through her illness, she had loving and devoted care from caregivers in her home, hospice and nursing home staff.The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. She had gotten out of a vehicle stopped by the side of the interstate, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.PINELLAS COUNTY – An Orlando woman died of injuries she received Friday (April 28) when hit by two vehicles while running across I-275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.Paige Nicole Murray, 23, of Orlando, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was taken after the crash. Dolores Ann Ashland, 53, of West Palm Beach, the driver of one of the vehicles, received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.Troopers said the crash happened about 9:22 p.m. at mile marker 23 on northbound I-275 in Pinellas County. Troopers said Ms. Murray had been a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped at the side of the interstate. James August (Jimmy) Morland, 69, of Holts Summit, passed away Sunday, March 26, after a lengthy illness.Jimmy was born in Jefferson City on September 1, 1947, to Virginia Darlene (Ousley) Morland and James Bedford (JB) Morland, both deceased.On June 16, 1996, he was married to Judy (Baumbach) Morland, who survives.A lifelong resident of the mid-Missouri area, Jimmy attended New Bloomfield schools. He joined the Navy in 1963 and “celebrated” his 17th birthday in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked in the construction field for his father, and others. He owned the Silver Dollar Saloon, worked at the Missouri State Penitentiary, owned Show Me Used Cars, co-owned Judy’s Cafe with his wife, and for the last 10 years transported traveler trailers from Indiana to dealers throughout the country. He also played in various bands with JD Wyatt and others, and then became the leader of The Southern Knights Band for many years.
