Monday, June 26, 2017Alday, Dr. Armando C. Went home to the Lord on June 15, 2017. Born in Tubac, Az August 4, 1940 to Cruz and Inez Alday; he is survived by his wife , Fran; his three children , Joan Salvestrini (Ken), Craig Alday (Hope), Kim Maningo (Lance); and his brother Joe Alday (Belinda). He graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Spanish, a Master’s in counseling and guidance, and a PHD in Administration. He worked for the Federal Department in Man Power as a counselor, for TUSD as a counselor, assistant principal, and a principal. He devoted his life to children and his church. Services will be held July 1, 2017 with a rosary at 10:00 followed by mass at 10:30 am at St. Odilia’s Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte. A luncheon/party will follow at the hall. Visitation will be Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Florence; the memorial service will follow beginning at 3:00 pm. Elkins Funeral Home of Florence is assisting the Family.Ann Craig was born in Nashville, TN January 30, 1927, to 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.. Her early education began in Florence after her father went into law practice here. She attended the Maude Lindsey Kindergarten, Kilby Training School and Coffee High School. She later attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College and graduated with a degree in history and art from Vanderbilt University in 1948.In 1949, she was married to the late Benjamin H. A homemaker, she was a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church, Shippingport and had worked as a legal secretary and waitress and also had written columns for the East Liverpool Review. She served on numerous committees at her church and was a longtime member of the South Side School Board.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Lawrence Hayward, in July 1995.Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jeff Caler, Glenside, Pa., and Rita and Dan Dawson, Hermitage, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Spencer Dawson, Kristin Courtwright, Marshal and Allison Caler, and Amanda and Ken Frederick, and three great-grandchildren, Kylee and Tristin Courtwright, and Robby Frederick.Family and friends are welcome to call Saturday, June 3, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050. The words cast in relief upon the bell’s copper sides identify its historic origin.“Catholic Colony Established 1913 By John P. Carroll, Bishop of Helena,” the raised lettering reads. “Donated By Rt. Rev. Victor Day, V.G.”Within this somewhat cryptic dedication lies the origins of a church, a community and the early history of Catholicism in central Montana.Many may be familiar with John Patrick Carroll, the second bishop of the Diocese of Helena. Carroll is remembered today as the driving force behind construction of the Cathedral of St. Helena and foundation of the first Catholic college in Montana, an institution which now bears his name; Carroll College.Fewer people are aware of the role played by the Right Rev.
