He worked on and eventually bought Charlene’s parents’ farm east of Lucerne, which was their home for over 25 years.Dale farmed sugar beets and corn and raised cattle and swine. She graduated from Ault High School in 1962.In May 1963, she married Richard Sidwell and they began ranching in Carr, Colo., raising registered Hereford cattle and kids. During this time she became involved in the Hereford Association gaining lifelong friendships and memories. Richard and Kathy later divorced in 1979.Kathy was a very determined, hardworking and talented person. Her wish was to own a farm and country store. In 2000, she bought her farm south of Fromberg. She built the Country Merchantile store to sell her pumpkins, her famous angel food cakes and various other baked goods and craft items becoming known as the “Pumpkin Lady.”Kathy loved trips to the mountains, playing in the snow and spending time at Joe and Kandin’s ranch. Many hours were spent gathering pods for projects, berries for jam and helping Kandin with her bottle babies during calving.We will take Kathy on her final trip to her favorite mountains in Estes Park next summer to celebrate her life with family and friends.We are so thankful for the wonderful care and compassion of the Heritage Acres staff.
