The species total was 9,528 birds.Opera singer Jack Swanson of Stillwater auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera at the district level open auditions, held at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul. JACKJoe Gorka, a Forest Lake high school student, began volunteering his time at Hardwood Creek Library as the Gadget Guru, teaching senior citizens how to use electronic devices.The Wildlife Science Center in Columbus received noticed that the DNR would terminate its lease at its current location. The center has been undergoing efforts to “Move the Pack” and plans to build a new facility for its various wolves, bears, raptors and other wild animals in Linwood.The Washington County Historical Society, in partnership with local Stillwater businesses, hosted the annual Winter Ice Cream Social in Lowell Park on Jan. 16. The temperature was 0 degrees F with a negative windchill.Marine Elementary introduced its new wintertime pilot program “Winter Warm-Up Challenge.” Students learned how to dress smart for the weather and spent extra time outdoors with winter activities.
