Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at NCMC in Greeley. He was born July 2, 1934, to Charles Henry and Mary Helen (Sterle) Chitwood in Leadville, where he grew up. They moved to Salina, Kan. and returned to Salida, Colo. before settling in Globeville, Colo. He moved to Kersey in 1974.Charles graduated from North High School in Denver in 1953 and completed his Eagle Scout in 1951.He married Mary Tomlinson on May 29, 1959, and they later divorced. He then married Jeanine Reneau and she died Jan. 22, 2014.Charles entered the U.S. Army and soon thereafter was honorably discharged due to rheumatic fever.He was a cabinet maker journeyman, working for Denver Lumber Company, and then started his own shop, later doing carpentry work throughout the state.He loved to go fishing, NASCAR, cooking, country and polka music, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.Charles was a member of the Local 510 Carpenter’s Union in Berthoud and was a founding member of Local 1583 Cabinet Makers Union.Survivors include his children, Charles (Sonya) Chitwood III of Morrison and Norine Green of Brighton, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren including, Kevin (Tori) Green and their children, Aspen and Clayton Green of all of Kersey and Zach, Cassie (Nick) and their child, RJ Duchene, all of Morrison.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; beloved sister, Annabelle; and brother, William.Services were held at the Adamson Chapel with interment at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.
