Monday, June 19, 2017MONROEVILLE — Joseph B. “Joe” Gravenhorst, 79, of Monroeville, passed away Friday evening, June 16, 2017, in Twilight Gardens Nursing Home, Norwalk, following a brief illness.He was born Feb. 11, 1938, in Norwalk and was a 1956 graduate of Monroeville High School. Joe was a U.S Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era. After 30 years of employment, he retired as Superintendent of Utilities from the Village of Monroeville in 1996.Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he had served on the church council and served as a church usher; the Holy Name Society, where he had served as secretary; Knights of Columbus, St. John Newman Chapter 1117, American Legion Post 547. He also had served on the Monroeville Village Council, Huron County Fair Board and was a life member of the Norwalk Eagles. Joe was also a former member of the Huron County Joint Fire District, Huron County Bank softball team and Monroeville Merchant baseball team.He is survived by one sister, Rita Leber of Toledo; two brothers, Jim (Marilyn) Gravenhorst and John Gravenhorst, both of Monroeville; sister-in-law, Betty Gravenhorst of Monroeville; nieces, nephe...
Saturday, June 10, 2017Edward B. DelanyEdward B. Delany, 91, of Wilton, formerly of Ridgefield, passed away after a long illness on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Norwalk Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Lucille (Heling) Delany.Mr. Delany was born on May 26, 1925 in Queens, NY; a son of the late James and Emilie (Bergmann) Delany. Edward graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Corona in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy V-12 program. Edward was enrolled at Columbia University, graduating in 1945 with a Bachelors of Engineering. He immediately entered service in the Navy with the rank of Ensign and was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines, billeted on the USS PC-1133. In 1946, he was released from active service to inactive service in the Naval Reserves. Ed returned home to Long Island and earned his Masters of Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, taking classes at night and working during the day. During this time Ed started his lifelong career at Perkin-Elmer. He also married his love, Lucille in May of 1948. Deciding to help Julius’ father farm, Julius moved his family to the farm for the next 12 years. After that, Escondido, CA became the family home base until Julius’ retirement in 1993 when he and Wynona returned to the family farm – a long time dream fulfilled.The loving and close-knit family Julius left are: Spouse: Wynona (Foy) Behling, daughters:Lana (Mike) Wolford, Diane (Eric) Wright, and son: Robert (Stefani) Behling. Seven grandsons:Michael “M.C.”(Hannah) Wolford; Matthew (Bailey) Wolford; E. Keegan Wright; Caleb Wright, Samuel Wright and Henry Wright; Zachary Behling.Siblings: Ewald (Margaret) Behling; Julie (Behling) Langevin, Lois (Behling) Glade; and Lydia (Behling) Lambrecht. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also remain.Julius was preceded in death by his first-born son, Mark Behling; his parents, brother: Edgar (Esther) Behling and three brothers-in-law: Wyman Glade, Artwin Lambrect and LeRoy Langevin.A memorial service will be held 15 April at 2:00 at the Behling Farm 860 K Rd, Beemer.A private family committal will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Beemer.“Rest confident in this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Rest in the Lord …and wait patiently for Him” Psalm 27:13,14 -- exactly what Julius did and the Lord rewarded him.
