Dr. Conrad Douglas Collins - Bristol Press

Monday, December 26, 2016

Collins served his country faithfully, saving many lives as a surgeon during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his service, he was honorably discharged from the Army and opened his medical practice in Plainville, Conn.As Doc Collins, he was unfailingly devoted to the practice of medicine and took extraordinary care of his patients in the Plainville and Bristol communities for more than 40 years. He was always grateful for the relationships that he developed with multiple generations of the families of patients. Doc Collins always spoke of his profession as a "calling" and treated it as such every day. He was also a leader in the community, serving as the Chief of Staff of Bristol Hospital for many years. A man of great energy and intellectual curiosity, he was an active entrepreneur and business man who founded and helped lead companies in fields as diverse as healthcare, construction, and technology.Doug had a beautiful singing voice and he never missed a chance to lead his friends and family in Christmas carols. His excellent sense of humor and dry wit made him a great conversationalist. While he was always game for a spirited debate, those who knew him best will never forget how much he loved to laugh. He loved children and enjoyed coaching his kids’ teams and watching them play. Whether on the sideline, in the dugout or on the bench, he offered encouraging guidance to the players. He was a season ticket holder for the Patriots and the Whalers (from their first season in Hartford until their last) and loved to watch Sunday football surrounded by family.Doug’s family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider volunteering or lending a hand to someone in need.
