Monday, June 26, 2017NAUGATUCK- Mary Rose Ann Holland, 80, the wife of the late John “Jack” Holland died on June 21, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Rose was born In Waterbury, CT on November 9, 1936, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Surovicz) Retkowski. Rose was a President of the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a talented cake decorator and seamstress. She is survived by her daughters, Maryann McLean and her husband David; Jo-Ann Holland; Jacalyn Holland; Francine Gliford and her husband John; Heather Bearz and her husband Howard; her sons, Joseph and his wife Kristen; Patrick and his wife Melissa; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her sisters Diane Stronkowsky; Sophie Ann Francher; and her brother-in-law William Wade Holland. Besides her husband of 58 years Rose goes to join her parents; her brothers Frederick Retkowski; Stanley Retkowski; and her sister Vera Retkowski.Donations in Rose’s memory can be made to ORTV, Inc. June was born on October 23, 1931 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Tato) DiTillo where she attended Wilby High School and worked at Kresge’s and Scovill Manufacturing until she married. June lived most of her life in Naugatuck and was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. June enjoyed trips to the casino, playing bingo and being out and about with family. She loved Elvis Presley, her cats and cardinals. She enjoyed her trips to Florida, Memphis, TN and her 2 trips to Hawaii.June is survived by her sons, Richard Toole and his wife Carol, and Michael Toole; her daughters, Debra Milliun, Linda Davey and Patricia Toole; her 5 grandchildren, Richard P. Monday, June 26, 2017NAUGATUCK – Barbara (Thurston) Engle, 84, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Waterbury Hospital with loving family by her side.Barbara was born on February 2, 1933, the daughter of the late James F. and Helen (Dowling) Thurston. She was raised in Naugatuck and attended St. Francis School and Naugatuck High School and was a graduate of Bay Path College. Barbara worked at The Bristol Company and was a substitute teacher in the Naugatuck School system for several years. She will be fondly remembered by many students and teachers at St. Francis School where she worked as the secretary for 18 years.Barb was a former member of the Naugatuck Council of Catholic Women and a former volunteer for the Peter J. Foley Little League. A loving sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Barb will be most remembered for her kind heart and endless love for her friends and family.She is survived by her son, David Engle; her daughter, Lynn E. She was the former Tax Collector and Welfare Director in Naugatuck for many years. Barbara is survived by her sons, Richard J. Schwartz, Jr. and his wife Caroline and Robert Schwartz and his wife Donna; her daughters, Barbara Edmonds and her husband Jim, Donna Schwartz and Lynn Minter and her husband Brendan; her grandchildren, Robert, Jr, Jamie Lynn, Nathaniel, Max, Colin and Maggie, her great-grandchildren, Tristan and Aryiah; her brother, John Hoben and his wife Jane; her sisters, Marion Cooksley and Sandra Goodman and her husband Roger; her brothers and sisters-in-law Suzie and Margie Hoben, Mark, Chris, Shirley, Larry, Pat, and Nancy Schwartz, and many nieces and nephews.
