Monday, November 28, 2016SCIPIODennie Box, 73, of Scipio died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at his home.Survivors include his wife, Beverly Box of Scipio; son, Greg (Stacey) Box of Westport; daughter, Jeanine (Bill) Garcia of Scipio; his mother, Jean Sheckell of New Albany; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cindi Vaughn of Louisville, Kentucky.He was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Box.The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Burial will be in Bear Creek Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County.Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday.Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
Monday, November 21, 2016Obituaries Saturday, November 05, 2016 Miriam Weinstein, 90Miriam Weinstein of Westport, the mother of the filmmakers Harvey and Bob Weinstein and an inspiration for the name of their first film company, Miramax, died Nov. 2 at her home. She was 90. Miriam Weinstein: inspiration for Miramax name. The Weinstein Company photo“I remember when they called from Buffalo and told me they had named the company Miramax — meaning Miriam and Max,” referring to her husband, she told The New York Times in 1997. “It was the ultimate compliment for a mother and dad. Sometimes I slip into a film, all by myself, here in the city, like ‘Shall We Dance?’, and look at the logo as the movie starts, and seeing our names joined like that ——” She never quite finished the sentence, the Times said.She was a part of her sons’ business from the beginning. After Miramax was founded in 1979, originally just to distribute independent films, she was the receptionist at the company’s first Manhattan headquarters.She was born Feb.17, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to parents Joseph and Sarah Postol. Monday, November 14, 2016Jones, wife of actor James Earl Jones, died Oct. 16 after a year of battling ovarian cancer. She was 68. She is pictured with actor Paxton Whitehead when they played husband and wife roles in the Westport Country Playhouse 2015 production of the Alan Ayckbourn comedy “Bedroom Farce.” (See video here of Jones and Whitehead) Whitehead and Hart said they have played stage roles of husband and wife five times in four plays over the years. Hart met her real husband while working on the TV series “Paris” in 1979. She appeared twice on Broadway; in “Dirty Linen” in 1977 and played Desdemona to Jones’ Othello in 1982. In addition to her husband, their son, Flynn, and her brothers James A. V. Hart and William F. Hart III, survive her.
