Monday, February 27, 2017PERRY TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – Dr. Mark James DelMaramo, age 57, passed to eternal life at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, Pennsylvania, on Friday, February 3, 2017 after a fierce fight against cancer. He was born on July 15, 1959, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the son of Constance and the late James DelMaramo. Mark was a 1977 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie and earned his bachelor’s degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, his master’s degree from Gannon University and his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University. On May 13, 1989, he married Brenda Kay Green. In 1989 Mark began his teaching career at Thiel College where he was an English professor for the past 27 years. He was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Greenville and was involved in the Cursillo movement of the Erie Diocese. Mark’s great loves were his family, his faith, teaching, especially his favorite course, History of the Western Humanities and Baltimore Orioles baseball. The facility cost $16 million. Demaree, whom the facility is named after, was part of a fundraising effort totaling $5,375,251 in pledges.The City of Kokomo also contributed to the facility, with the city contributing $12.5 million to the project, including $8.5 million in bonds, alongside various public and private donations. Pruitt.Rowley, a 44-year-member of Parksley Volunteer Fire Company who also served as chaplain and parlimentarian of the Delmarva Volunteer Firemen's Association, died at age 59 after an illness on Dec. 4, 2013.Rowley was known as the informal custodian of the history of volunteer firefighting on Virginia's Eastern Shore and was often consulted for his knowledge.His depth of knowledge of local firefighting history led to his passion for building a memorial to local volunteer firefighters and rescue workers who died in the line of duty, and he was a member of a committee set up to explore the idea.The memorial design subsequently was developed by that committee, which included members from Accomack and Northampton county volunteer fire departments and the Accomack County Department of Public Safety.Members of the initial committee were Pruitt, who replaced former Public Safety Director Jason Loftus when Loftus moved away from the area; Susan Leonard and Vince Savona, both also of the Accomack County Department of Public Safety; Jim LeCato of Northampton Fire and Rescue; Freddie Matthews of Parksley Volunteer Fire Company and Rowley.A dedication ceremony for the memorial was held on Sunday, Oct. 23 and was attended by around 150 people, Pruitt said.
