A longtime Ocalan with roots in South Africa, who was known for her incredible talent with sewing and generosity to others, will be remembered with a memorial ceremony Thursday.Dolores Alice Putz, best known as Lola, died Feb. 5, at the age of 97. She resided in Bellevue, Nebraska, and Ocala, with her son and his wife, Victor and Libby Turnipseed Putz.Lola Putz had roots in Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa. It was there she completed training in dressmaking and millinery theory at Mrs. Brownlee’s School of Dressmaking. That would open the door for the charitable work related to sewing she later accomplished in Ocala.Putz was born July 10, 1919, to Alice and Leandro Comerma. While in Johannesburg, she met American mining engineer Henry Putz. They married June 21, 1938. Their children, Victor and June, were born in South Africa.It was the Mau Mau uprising in South Africa in the early 1950s that motivated Henry Putz to move his family to Ocala in August of 1952. Monday, February 06, 2017Vicki Boyd Wahl, 69, of Panama City Beach, Florida passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 after an extended battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ("ALS"). Vicki was born in Ocala, Florida to Roy Thaggard Boyd, Sr. and Ethel Wynns Boyd. A native of Sanford, Florida, Vicki graduated from Seminole High School in 1966 before earning undergraduate (UWF) and graduate (USF) degrees in education. She met her soul mate in 1971 while she was learning to teach at Booker T. Washington Senior High School and he was learning to fly helicopters at NAS Pensacola. Vicki and Lex married in 1972 and a wonderful life together ensued. Vicki's first son was born in 1974 at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. Vicki and Lex returned to Florida in 1979, adopted a second son, and settled into family life in Dothan, Alabama in 1987. Vicki was a teacher's teacher. She taught history, economics, social studies and other subjects at Northview High School from 1987 until 2003. Vicki was respected, loved and taken seriously by her students. The Alabama Council on Economic Education recognized Vicki's many talents by naming her Alabama's Economics Teacher of the Year in 1991. Fo...

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Benito Capilupi; her son and daughter-in-law, Savino and Theresa Capilupi; her 5 year old grandson Anthony Capilupi whom she absolutely adored; her sisters, Angelina Sacco (Italy) and Rosa Mazza of Long Branch, and her brother, Aldo Sacco formerly of Tinton Falls. Antonietta is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews across the U.S. and in her native Italy. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15th at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch from 10:00am to 12:00pm immediately followed by services commencing at 12:00pm. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Long Branch.
