Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Marquis Steffon Perry will be held Tuesday, March 28, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Ridge Baptist Church, 1401 M.L.K., Jr. Blvd, Dalton, with Dr. Jerry Jones, Sr. as Eulogist and other ministers officiating. The Family will receive friends Monday, March 27, after noon at Willis Funeral Home and at the church one hour before the funeral. Interment will be held at West Hill Cemetery. He was born in Cartersville on March 4, 1934, son of the late Bernard and Bessie Reed Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Jackson Dodd in 2016; his grandson, Bryce Dodd in 2016; a sister, Sarah Jackson Purvis; and a brother, Johnny Jackson.Hubert was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labors. More than anything, he enjoyed sharing a story and a good laugh with his friends, family and neighbors.He was baptized Aug. 2, 2014, by John Runyon and Bruce Young of the Spring Street Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer Stalker, Thurman Stalker and Jennings Hawkins; and three sisters, Maggie Bailey, Della Thacker and Thelma Ratliff.He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Gertrude Looney Stalker; one son, Clyde Stalker (Jennie) of Pikeville; four daughters, Lucille Potter of Mt. From Feb. 1 to Feb. 6, it was administered 13 times.According to the Substance Abuse Council, Calhoun County had 147 heroin overdoses in 2016. There were also 89 non-heroin opiate overdoses.Carey said Erin had been struggling with an addiction for about 10 years, and the parents knew about it for about five years. Erin was living at home when she overdosed, and her parents found her.Michigan State Police Trooper Kristi Angelo was with Carey on Friday to talk about Erin. Angelo co-founded the Calhoun County chapter of Families Against Narcotics after her son, Nicholas Grumeretz, died of a prescription painkiller overdose.Carey's been to a few meetings and Angelo said the two families' stories are similar, and they're similar to many more."Dealing with families of people that are suffering with this addiction, it’s amazing how much alike they all are," Angelo said.
