St. Francis of Assisi Church.In addition to his wife Mary, Joe is survived by his daughters, Ann Daly and her husband Kevin J. Daly, Jr., and Debra Schmetterling and her husband Jack Schmetterling; his grandchildren, Caitlin Daly, Jessica Daly, David Schmetterling and Daniel Schmetterling; his brother, Elmar Oliveira and his wife Sandy Robbins and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother, John Oliveira.Joe loved his home. He was an avid gardener and talented woodworker who was a master of Do-It-Yourself projects for his family. Joe enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach. Two of his favorite destinations were Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Ogunquit, Maine. As a young man, Joe was a semi-professional soccer player. He later continued his love of sports as a die-hard UConn basketball fan. Joe had a deep appreciation for music and art, and loved to sing and dance. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the Church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. He is survived by his son Roy and his wife Kristen of Hingham, Julie Veilleux and her husband Greg of Bar Harbor, Maine, Mark of Hingham, Maria Metters of Vineyard Haven, Tom of San Francisco, Calif., Dave and his wife Suzanne of Verona, N.J., and Brandi Pollock and her husband Tim of Los Angeles, Calif. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, of whom he was extremely proud.He was most recently a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Cohasset, where he received the loving care that he needed. His family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise for the love that they continuously showed Bill.A celebration of life service was held in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street (off Central Street), Hingham, prior to the funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church.
