A United States Air Force World War II veteran, he retired from CSX Railroad as a machinist after 42 1/2 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Lewis Howell, one brother, Robert Howell, and one sister, Betty Houston.Survivors include two sons, James A. Howell III (Brandi), and Tony Howell (Wanda), both of Hephzibah, two grandchildren, Robert Sanford Howell Sr. (Chelsea) and Brittany Williams, two great-grandchildren, R.J. and A.J. Monday, August 29, 2016J. Sudol.Born in Haverhill, June 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Wieczerxak) Palen and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. She worked at Western Electric as a coil winder, retiring after more than 30 years of service. Her enjoyments included playing Bingo, reading, trips to Foxwoods, and above all else, her children, grandchildren and family gatherings.She leaves her two sons, Michael Sudol and the mother of his two children, Eleanor Sudol and Thomas Sudol and the mother of his two children, Linda Sudol, all of Haverhill; six grandchildren, Eric, Karen, John, Michael, Derrick and Jason; three sisters, Frances, Kay and Patty; brother, Freddie; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.A graveside service for family and friends takes place Friday, July 15, 11 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill. She is survived by 5 children: Heather Loden of Springfield, Tennessee; Mike McGrew (Edie) of Fresno, California; Ben McGrew of Reno, Nevada; Matt McGrew (Teresa) of Windermere, Florida; and Chris McGrew of Sacramento, California. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.Article PhotosMary had many occupations over her lifetime: a stewardess with Continental Airlines, a bookkeeper with Koscot Cosmetics, a data processing clerk with Orlando Regional Medical Center, and most importantly a homemaker. At the age of 53 she graduated from the police academy and became a Corrections Officer for the Orange County Sheriff's Department / Orange County Corrections Department where she retired with the rank of Corporal.Upon retirement, she spent her time working part-time at the Lighthouse in Ponce Inlet, shooting pool at the local billiards club, dancing, playing bingo at area senior centers, and pampering her dogs, Minnie-Pearl, and then Vienna-Louise. She loved to travel the high seas, having sailed over 20 times enjoying almost every cruise line.A Celebration of Life in honor of Mary will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, August 13 at the First Baptist Church of Winter Garden, 125 E.
