Saturday, June 10, 2017Remains of WWII veteran comes home...The Rolling Thunder, Mountain Home Chapter is asking Northeast Tennesseeans who want to honor Pfc. Reece Gass, the World War II veteran whose body is returning to Greeneville on June 8th, to line the roads for a long-overdue welcome home.Gass' family will receive his remains Thursday evening at the Tri-Cities Airport.His casket will be escorted to Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville by law enforcement, an Army Honor Guard, Rolling Thunder Mountain Home Chapter, and many other organizations.The Rolling Thunder group is urging citizens not able to attend the public visitation or committal service on Saturday to line TN 75, TN Route 36, TN 354/Boones Creek Road, and 11E from the airport to Greeneville as a salute.The Rolling Thunder, Inc. is a non-profit veterans organization that seeks accountability for all prisoners of war and missing in action soldiers from past wars.
Monday, March 27, 2017He later was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada where he specialized in avionics. He even worked on the famous Thunderbirds planes.When he was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base he met the love of his life, Donna Mae Yager, of Payette, Idaho. They were later married. When he retired from the U.S. Air Force, they moved to California where he worked for Fallbrook Water District running backhoe and pipe layer. He would also work as a mechanic. The family then settled back in Idaho. Carl helped his sons start their own company, Yager-Weber Construction in Jerome and was an integral part of their success.When Donna became ill he cut back on the construction work to take care of her saying ‘I would not trade her for a million bucks and will take care of her at our home.’ He would do anything for her and she received the best of care.Carl is survived by his children, Carl Yager and Sean Weber; and stepchildren, Robin (Michael) Phillips, Tina Gluch, Michael White, and Todd (Jennifer) White.
