Monday, February 06, 2017LYNDON – Earl T. Rhodes, 71, of Lyndon, died on Tuesday morning, Jan. 17, 2017, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, surrounded by his loving family.He was born May 13, 1945, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Lowell and Ida (Snelling) Rhodes. He married Rose Sanders on Oct. 7, 1967, in Sterling. Earl was an Army veteran, and a lifetime member of Rock Falls Eagles Club, where he served as past conductor. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling for 31 years, prior to his retirement in 2000. Earl loved working in his garage doing various projects, including building custom bicycles and making furniture for his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling and taking occasional trips with Rose to visit family in Arkansas. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was devoted to his family. Monday, January 23, 2017SUBLETTE – Margaret L. Bonnell, 76, of Sublette, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a caring, generous woman, who left an impression on everyone she met.She was born Feb. 6, 1940, in her family home on the corner of Algonquin and Penny in Barrington Township, the daughter of Edward and Freda (Meier) Krabbe. She was a cook at Mendota Hospital, Sublette Fast Stop, and Mendota Lutheran Home. She also had worked at the Sublette Post Office. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette, St. Anne Sodality, and Sublette 365 Committee, and was a Cub Scout den mother.Margaret married Bruce N. Bonnell on Aug. 21, 1960, in Lake Zurich. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2005. Throughout her life, she was known for having both an open heart and open home, no matter the time of day. Monday, June 13, 2016STERLING – Robert Charles “Bob” McKinley, 72, of Sterling, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.He was born March 14, 1944, in Belleville, to Walter and Marie (Broberg) McKinley. He graduated in 1962 from Harlem High School in Loves Park, and attended Western Illinois University. He graduated in 1971 from Rockford College, and earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Northern Illinois University.Bob was a proud veteran of the Army, and served in Vietnam. He married Cynthia Page in 1968, and together they had five children. He relocated his family from Rockford to Sterling to accept a position at Lawrence Bros. Co., where he worked for 24 years. At the age of 57, he returned to school at Eastern Illinois University to obtain a teaching certificate. Bob then taught history and business at Newman Central Catholic High School, until his retirement in 2013.Bob was an avid, lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and faithfully watched all their games.
