Obituary: Karen Louise Busch - Twin Falls Times-News

States.After a short time in Denver, the next port of call was Egypt in the 1990's, where Karen, Leo and Kari Ann lived for several years in Cairo. Karen enjoyed all that Egypt had to offer, from trips to the Valley of the Kings, riding camels on Christmas Day at the pyramids, or searching out exotic trinkets at the shopping bazaar in Cairo. While in Egypt, Karen also stamped her passport to Greece, Turkey and the historical sites of Syria. It was an easier life once she and Leo moved to Bend, Oregon and enjoyed helping Kari raise granddaughter Karissa. The tradition continued when all moved to Ontario, Oregon and Karen took joy in having two grandsons around as well.Karen is survived by husband, Leo; son Mark and his children Matthew and Ansley; son Steve, wife Denise, and their children Tyler and Courtney; and daughter Kari Ann Reynolds, husband David and their children Karissa, Jason and Aaron. She is also survived by sister Lois Ann Weidler and her husband Harold; brother Jim Dahle and his wife Susan; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A memorial service to celebrate Karen's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Ontario. A future service will be held in Velva for Karen's family and friends there. She is gone but never forgotten as a loving wife, caring mother, gentle grandmother, loved sister, and special woman who took on the world. A life well-lived and now her travels have taken her to the Lord's House.

They saw General Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, who initiated Morsi’s removal and later became Egypt’s new president, as a savior. Bishoy Armanious, a 30-year-old electrical engineer from a suburb of Cairo, was among El-Sisi’s biggest fans. Together with thousands of Egyptians, he took it to the streets in support of the general. “We had been praying for change to happen,” Bishoy muses. “El-Sisi saved Egypt from the nothingness Morsi was leading us to.”In the early days after Morsi’s ouster, many Copts shared Bishoy’s conviction. Some, like Coptic priest Makary Younan, even claimed El-Sisi had been “sent from heaven.” But Sisi’s failure to address longstanding injustices has prompted disillusionment. Many Copts now feel that the president has failed to deliver on the promise of equality he made three years ago. In a sign of mounting discontent, protests amongst the Christian community have swollen in recent months to an unprecedented degree. Once regarded as a pillar of support for the regime, Copts now constitute a growing challenge for the government in Cairo.Copts are the region’s largest minority and constitute about 10 percent of Egypt’s population of 92 million. My Catholic guilt is engaged as I think about people who marched through the streets of Cairo and Tehran and Baghdad, courageously saying, “We are here.” And I think of my father in Hattiesburg, telling those little white children with the dirty mouths, “I am here.”So, I’m voting this year.Not for him, and not for her. Both are so soiled and damaged as candidates that billions of “Hail Marys” would not wipe the stain from my soul if I supported either one.But I am voting, for an as-yet undetermined person whose name will be written in that space left open for me by my father, and those who went before.And, my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee by even considering staying home.Christine M.
