East Peoria IL Obituaries and Death Notices
Monday, December 26, 2016Illinois," said District 8 secretary/treasurer Ryan Johnson from Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton.District 8 President Madison Fox from Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and East Peoria dropped off the group's first donation at the Journal Star office in Peoria in 2014."The receptionist at the Journal Star told me about someone she knew who would be a beneficiary of the Christmas Fund," Fox said. "After hearing that story, I'm so glad we're making a donation each year."Discussions in 2014 among group members about making an annual charitable donation led to the decision to contribute to the Christmas Fund."Our end goal as an organization isn't to gather a bunch of money," Johnson said."We were looking to donate to something that would benefit the most people in need and we thought the Christmas Fund was perfect for that," Henderson said. The group donated $500 in 2014 and 2015 and $200 this year to the Christmas Fund. Money for the donation comes from annual and meeting dues paid by group members and from fees for an all-day continuing education seminar. Each group meeting contains a speaker and counts toward the funeral directors' continuing education requirements. The donation is less this year because the group is holding fewer meetings. Most of the 20 or so funeral directors in the group are from funeral homes in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties. There are a few from Fulton and Knox counties.Donations still can be sent to the Christmas Fund, now in its 104th year. Send to Christmas Fund, P.O. Box 1549, Peoria, IL 61655.
