Monday, November 21, 2016Reed Funeral Home, which opened in February.This month, Reed married his girlfriend, Sara Hardin, a nurse at Southern Ohio Medical Center. With her support, he said his goal is to help the people of Greenup County and surrounding areas have a comfortable place for the funerals of their loved ones.In May 2015, Reed graduated with an associate of applied science degree in funeral services from Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College at Cumberland. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the state.He grew up in and around his family’s business at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, and decided an expansion was needed in South Shore.Even though death is a constant in his job, he said he loves every aspect of his work. Being able to help a family during a difficult time, however, brings him the greatest satisfaction.Reed’s typical day begins with unlocking the doors of the funeral home, answering emails and helping people with prearrangements of their own funerals. When a death call is received, someone is dispatched immediately and will arrive within 45 mintues.Reed said he uses a calm demeanor when working with families who are struggling with decisions. Knox, Sr. Sept. 15, 1940, in Greenup, WV. He passed away July 25, 1997.She was a member of Harsh Memorial United Methodist Church. She loved to crochet, do cross word puzzles and attend yard sales.She is survived by a son, Robert D. (Carol) Knox Jr., of Harlem Springs; three grandchildren, Oakie Lee (Teresa) George, Julia Lynn (Fred) Glasure and Sandra (Kirt) Stack; one-step grandson, Matt Simms; several great grandchildren; and many loving family members. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Icenhour and Sandra Knox; one brother, Harold Wiggins; and two sisters, Dorothy Kovach and Doris Shipman.Calling hours for Hazel will be Thursday, Aug. 25 in Harsh Memorial Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Eric Kluth officiating.
