Mary Jo Janc, 78, of Cedar Hill died March 22, 2017. Mrs. Janc volunteered for 14 years at Birth Right. Born May 14, 1938, in Joliet, Ill., she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Hanrahan) Miller.She is survived by husband of 57 years: Anthony J. Janc of Cedar Hill; one daughter: Kris Elkins of Morgantown, W.Va.; two grandchildren: Alyse Elkins and Cody Elkins; one brother: Father Bertin Miller, OFM; and many other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by one son: Michael A. Janc; and one brother: Thomas James Miller.Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30 in Cedar Hill. CHAMPAIGN – Gary Richard Whitmer, 65, passed away on Thursday (Feb. 9, 2017) at Helia Healthcare of Champaign.He was born on Oct. 29, 1951, in Joliet to Richard Louis and Marie Rose (Elias) Whitmer. Gary is survived by his brothers, Glen Louis (Gregg Perry) of Champaign and Richard Elias (Marilyn Marker) Whitmer of Peachtree Corners, Ga.; nieces, Charlotte Marie, Georgia Rose and Savannah Kimberly.He was preceded in death by his parents. Private graveside committal will be on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Father Michael Condos will officiate. While working for the Joliet Herald she wrote a book, "A Dozen Knights and Griffins," in tribute to the Lincoln-Way High School District.She met and interviewed many celebrities, including presidents and their wives, political figures and many more. This includes a close relationship and friendship with movie critic Roger Ebert, with whom she shared a special relationship throughout their careers.After a 53-year career spanning several states, Jari returned to Marion where she was involved in many organizations. Friday to remember the children described them, one word was repeated again and again.Happy.“They were really full of life, still,” said their cousin, Gerson Adame.Abigail, 13, and Eder, 12, both of Joliet, drowned Memorial Day evening in the Kankakee River near the dam in Wilmington.Those who loved them came together Friday evening at the site to honor their memory.Their pastor, Enrique Guzman, of Iglesia de Cristo: Casa de Oracion, recalled through the translation of his daughter, Maria Perez, how Abigail and Eder used to throw open the glass doors of the Joliet church and run in late, racing.Guzman said he always saw them coming from the pulpit.
