Avenue, Augusta, MichiganA poignant procession made its way to a Macomb County destination Saturday morning as law enforcement officers and civilians gathered to honor the memory of a local man killed in the line of duty.On Saturday morning the hearse carrying the body of slain Wayne State University Police K9 Officer Collin Rose of St. Clair Shores made its way from Ann Arbor to Kaul Funeral Home in Clinton Township. The long procession of law enforcement vehicles following behind it were greeted by two men waving American flags.One red, white and blue flag was carried by a stranger.“I heard about the procession on the news and didn’t see a lot of people showing up so I grabbed the flag and came over,” said Chris Briggs, 46, of St. Clair Shores. He had no idea that Rose was a fellow Shores resident only that he was an officer killed in the line of duty. “I know it’s not a funeral but I wanted to show my respect and support of the officers.”AdvertisementThe other black and blue flag was carried by a father.“Our daughter, Jessica Nagle Wilson, was killed in the line of duty and our son is in law enforcement,” said Bill Nagle of New Baltimore, who was joined by his wife Debbie Nagle. “The blue line is for the Blue Line of law enforcement and the black is for all the fallen officers – of which there are too many.”Also greeting the police officer’s procession was Rose’s family, who had come to make arrangements for his funeral.Rose, 29, a graduate of Ferris State University who was engaged to be married, was stopping someone on a bicycle when he was shot once in the head. Monday, November 28, 2016Friday.On Saturday morning, dozens of police departments around Michigan escorted Rose's body from Gift of Life surgical center in Ann Arbor to a funeral home in Macomb County.Rose donated his organs, which could go to help as many as 75 people, according to the Gift of Life Michigan.In the Saturday night vigil, mourners marched about a mile through Woodbridge, led by resident Darla Welton singing Amazing Grace, and followed by more than a dozen emergency vehicles with lights activated."He had the right stuff," said Wayne State Police University Police Chief Holt, who said Rose would always stop to help a citizen with a flat tire."He would be nothing but overjoyed to see the outpouring of support from the community."The candlelight procession ended near where Rose was found shot.Marchers laid down flowers near a make shift memorial at a traffic sign surrounded by stuffed animals and cards."When this happened, we knew we had to come together to do something," said Woodbridge resident Tamara French, who helped organize the vigil.French said the community is looking to find ways to memorialize Rose by possibly naming or renaming a local park in his honor.A GoFundMe account for the family of the slain officer has gathered just over $51,000 as of Saturday night. Monday, October 24, 2016Pearson.Wiley Hargus, age 34, of Pearson, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, in Pearson.He was born Nov. 15, 1981, in Shawnee to Mac and Donna (Robison) Hargus.Wiley grew up in the Romulus/Macomb area and was residing in Pearson.He attended Macomb High School, VoTech, and truck driving school.Wiley married Amber Hughes on Feb. 5, 2009, in Shawnee.He loved fishing with his children and spending time with them. Wiley enjoyed working on cars.He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Robison, Jr; and grandparents, Charlie and Mary Hargus.Wiley is survived by his four children, Landon Hughes, age 10, Hunter Hargus, age 8, Kyle Hargus, age 6, and Chelsea Hargus, age 4; father, Mac and Tammie Hargus; mother, Donna Hargus; sister, Mary and Jared Scott; brother, Mikki Hargus; grandmother, Margie Robison; nephew, Elcho Scott; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many other family and friends.Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Cooper Funeral Home. (AP) — A Macomb County man has died, two weeks after trying to rescue two sons in Lake Michigan off the Upper Peninsula.A funeral was held Monday for 53-year-old Kevin Ketchum of Shelby Township. The Pixley Funeral Home reports he died on Aug. 17.Police in Manistique say Ketchum suffered injuries on Aug. 4 when he rushed into Lake Michigan to help two sons who were struggling in the water. Authorities also responded and rounded up the boys.Ketchum was transferred to a Metro Detroit hospital before his death.AdvertisementA graduate of Fitzgerald High School, Mr. Ketchum worked at General Dynamics for many years, his family said in his Pixley Funeral Home obituary. He was also a member of Mammoth Baptist Church and his passion in life was his 3 children, his family said.“Kevin saved two small children in Lake Michigan and is considered a hero by all and he will be greatly missed,” they said in his obituary.
