Monday, February 20, 2017NDALE — Members of the Carbondale Muslim Center board completed this month payments to double their mosque’s offerings at Al Baqih Garden, part of Crain Funeral Home's Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. The board doubled its 92-plot footprint in the cemetery, and board member Rahim Khalil said this was in an effort to lay a foundation for the next generation, giving them the tools to continue to establish a Muslim community in Carbondale.Tareq Khaaliq, also a CMC board member, said this expansion was to keep up with a steadily growing Muslim community.“We have a growth in permanent community members,” Khaaliq said, adding that in the past, many of the mosque’s members were transient.Khalil said he expects to see this trend continue. He foresees Muslims will immigrate to the United States and ultimately some will land in Carbondale. While it is not necessary, Khaaliq said it is nice to be buried as a community.“For those who have passed, family members would still like to know … it would be something that would be exclusive and they could visit without intruding on other religious memories,” he said. #video-ad-asset-container, #video-ad-asset-container-playe...
