Monday, December 26, 2016Herman was later transferred to Greats Lakes, IL where he retired in 1981 after 24 years of service and 5 Vietnam tours with the rank of Chief Gunner’s Mate. The Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago, IL was where Herman entered and retired from the U.S.N. After his retirement from the military Herman and his family moved to Mazeppa so he could farm on the land he purchased back in the early 1960s.Herman was a member of the Zumbro Falls VFW and the America Legion Post 0588 – Mazeppa.Herman enjoyed the outdoors, nature, cutting wood, the range hogs and hog huts, horses, target shooting, and loved telling Herman stories.Herman is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois; son, James (Maria) Von Essen of Peru; two daughters, Karla (Frank) Turchin of Cottage Grove and Lorna (George) Davidson of King City, MO; grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle, Rachel and Jesse; two sisters, Glenice Watson and Judy Otteman; and niece, Kia (Steve) Hackman.Herman was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane Frandsen; and infant brother, Raymond Von Essen.
Monday, November 28, 2016Waukegan. He married the love of his life, Jeannette M. Riley on May 20, 1979 in Waukegan. Pete was a US Navy Veteran, and worked at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago for many years as a Pharmacy Technician. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jeannette M. Vazquez; mother, Margarita Vazquez; children, Christa (Louis) Jensen and Luis Vazquez; grandchildren, Angelika Jensen, Anneliese Jensen, Aramis Jensen and Ahleena Jensen; brothers and sisters, Roman Vazquez, Ricardo Vazquez, Felix (Misty) Vazquez, Maria (James) Varnadore, Julia (Edmund) Martinez Bieschke and Eva (Kevin) Urbanik; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation is Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 10am-11am at Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services are Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11am at the funeral home with Pete's son-in-law, Louis Jensen, officiating. Inurnment will take place at Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee.

Grady loved Steppin Music, was known as “DJ Big G,” and was one of the best DJs from Silver City Spinner and the Youth Center in North Chicago. He worked at Condell Hospital for the past 19 years as a Supervisor in the Dietary Department. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, mother, Margaret Smith; soul mate and best friend, Samantha Dotson-Cruz; daughter, Brittany Fitts; step-children, Shafi Darr, Sr., Carlos Cruz, Jr., Timothy Dye, Denikka Hicks and Danasia Hicks; grandchildren, Bryanna, Taliyah, Gia, Shafi, Jr. and Adrian; brothers and sister, Rodney (Paula) Fitts, Kimberly (Erskin) Townsend and Curtis D. Monday, October 17, 2016Upon his discharge from the Air Force he returned to Athens, Ohio where he met and eventually married his wife of 70 years, Maida Juanita Cook. He was first employed by Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, and later by Cutter Laboratories in Chattanooga. In 1954 he resigned employment in order to engage in self-employment, namely a rental service named United Rent All, and three years later he changed the name to Rent All Store which still exists today. He lived in the same house for 63 years, which he loved to call home. He was a member of the Brainerd Presbyterian Church and the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He served as an ordained deacon in this church. He managed and directed his business actively for 30 years and served as consultant for another 27 years. He was elected to the original board of directors of the American Rental Association. During retirement he and his wife were active in square dancing. They belonged to Chatta Square dancing. Dan became interested in line dancing and taught this exercise for several years. After line came ballroom dancing. It was about this point in life he decided it was time to retire from this active life style. He leaves this world with no regrets.
