Monday, July 18, 2016John E. "Jack" Niendorf of Dana Point, Calif., died at the Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., on Monday, July 4, 2016, at 4:30 p.m.Jack, the son of Dorothy and the late Richard Niendorf of Park Forest, Ill., was born July 16, 1947, at the Englewood Hospital, Chicago. He grew up in Park Forest and attended Rich East High School, where he was an all-conference linebacker and shortstop in baseball.He attended college in North Dakota on scholarship before joining the Marines. After service in Vietnam he continued his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, earning a B.S. in civil engineering. He and his wife Linda and their young sons John and Robert moved to Bend, Ore., where he was a firefighter and paramedic, rising through the ranks to deputy chief and fire marshal. It is surmised that his cancer began from firefighting.He built houses in his off time. After his return to Illinois, he worked at Custodis Construction Company, progressing from draftsman to construction manager. His next job was as senior project manager at Concept Development Group (CDG) in Frankfort. He then worked as general superintendent for the Gilbane Building Company, Chicago. While in Hawaii, ...
