Tuesday, April 18, 2017Lake Ozark; daughter, Elizabeth Veit and husband Brian of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Ben Veit and Kate Veit; brothers, Richard Kohl and wife Joan of Williams, IA; Don Kohl and wife Judy of Rock Falls, IL; and several nieces and nephews.David was a member of the Lake Ozark Christian Church in Lake Ozark. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He enjoyed fishing, maintaining his lawn and woodworking.Visitation will be Saturday, April 29 from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Lake Ozark Christian Church with a Memorial Service beginning at 11, with Rev. Gary Mitchell officiating. Full Military Honors will be presented at the church following the service by the Eldon VFW Post #2442.Private Family Interment will be held at a later date.Contributions in his name may be made to the David P. Bentz Memorial Fund for a project at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.Arrangements are under the direction and care of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
Monday, February 06, 2017May 13, 1945, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Lowell and Ida (Snelling) Rhodes. He married Rose Sanders on Oct. 7, 1967, in Sterling. Earl was an Army veteran, and a lifetime member of Rock Falls Eagles Club, where he served as past conductor. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling for 31 years, prior to his retirement in 2000. Earl loved working in his garage doing various projects, including building custom bicycles and making furniture for his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling and taking occasional trips with Rose to visit family in Arkansas. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was devoted to his family. His witty sense of humor and contagious smile will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.Those left to honor his memory include his wife Rose of Lyndon; a daughter, Rhonda (Kevin) Burks of Sterling; two sons, Lowell “Guss” (Shelby) of Rock Falls and Greg (Chris) Rhodes of Lyndon; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and another on the way; a brother, Maurice (Mary) Rhodes of Sterling; and sisters, Kathy (Tom Walker) Scovell of Sterling and Sue (Larry) Bellini of Rock Falls. Monday, January 30, 2017ROCK FALLS – Caroline A. Gardner, 77, of Rock Falls, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at her home. Caroline was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Sterling, the daughter of Eugene and Alice (Benson) Kohl. She was employed by Super Value for 20 years. She enjoyed arts and crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren. Caroline was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison.
