Two killed in crash - Escanaba Daily Press

Gerald Grenfell, 84, had pulled onto U.S. 2 and 41 into the path of a westbound vehicle. Gerald was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle he was driving, Rosellen Grenfell, 80, died after being flown to U.P. Health System in Marquette. The driver of the westbound vehicle was treated for injuries and released at the scene.Alcohol and speeding are not believed to be factors in the crash. Assisting the Delta County Sheriff’s Department at the scene of the crash were the Michigan State Police, Escanaba Public Safety, Hannahville Tribal Police, Ford River Fire Department, Bark River Fire Department, U.P. Health System, and Valley Med Flight. The crash remains under investigation.Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Crawford Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service celebrating the lives of Gerald and Rosellen will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Strom officiating.Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery. Debbie Sully, who also coordinates parade logistics with the Township of Union, the 2017 Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade will feature high school marching bands from the Township of Union and Roselle Park and the Governor Livingston High School Highlander Band. The many bagpipe bands marching include the Union County Police & Fire Pipes & Drums and the St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band. Also marching will be Fourth Degree color guards from the Knights of Columbus, non-profit units, local police and fire departments and the Garden State Ceili Club float.A Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth at 9 a.m. to begin the day followed by a welcoming reception in the church hall. St. Patrick’s Church is located at 215 Court Street in Elizabeth, NJ 07206.The family-friendly festivities kick off at 12:00 Noon at the reviewing stand located at the corner of Morris and Stuyvesant Avenues in Union Center with a warm Irish welcome from parade officials, traditional Irish music and Irish step-dancing. The one-mile parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Commerce Avenue and Morris Avenue, proceeding east on Morris Avenue to Union Center and south onto Stuyvesant Avenue, ending at Roosevelt Avenue.The parade will also feature a Kids Zone presented by the Union Special Improvement District. The Kids Zone will feature inflatable rides, walk-around entertainers and activities for the whole family. Police say a dozen passengers were injured and four of the victims were transported to the hospital via medical helicopter.On Saturday, Guardado-Quintani’s niece, Blanca Amor, of Roselle, started a GoFundMe page. On the site, she describes her aunt as “very shy, honest, caring and such an innocent person.”Amor said on the page that her aunt “dedicated her life” to caring for her grandmother and great-grandmother in El Salvador. Amor said when her great-grandmother passed away at age 105, Guardado-Quintani moved to the United States to live with her sisters.“We never got to say goodbye the right way,” Amor said of her aunt’s death.She said the page was set up in order to help the family raise enough money to send her body home to El Salvador “where she can be laid to rest with my grandmothers.”So far, the page has raised $210 of the family’s $7,000 goal.The crash that killed Guardado-Quintani remains under investigation, police said.Toniann Antonelli is a social content producer for NJ 101.5.
