She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Union Bridge; the Maryland Troopers Association; Order of Eastern Star Plymouth Chapter 41 and the Lions Club, both of Union Bridge, Colonial Williamsburg Burgesses Society, W.A.R. Goodwin Society and the Red Hats’ Meow. She was a volunteer at the Carroll County Farm Museum from 1990-1996. Monday, February 20, 2017He was instrumental in helping to expand the shrine property, including the construction of a curator's home and a replica of the original meeting house employed. Dan Hartzler, a member of the Strawbridge Shrine board and friend of Talley's, recalled a hands-on approach to those projects."He probably did more work on the curator's house than anybody else," Hartzler said. "He not only was our leader but he was able physically to do an awful lot of work around there — from moving stones to getting prices on a project we were working on, he led us in so many ways."Talley's sense of service extended beyond the Strawbridge Shrine as well, according to Hartzler. Both men were members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, in New Windsor, where Talley had long been chairman of the board of trustees until Hartzler took over in 2016."I took it over asking that Jim would still be on the trustee board, which he was," Hartzler said. "He was the kind of guy that could really give and would not mind giving in order to see something work."In the early 1990s, Talley attended seminary, was ordained and became the pastor at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, in Finksburg, where he served for seven years.
