Monday, April 03, 2017Ray Whitlock, 79, of Athens, died Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at his home.He was a native and resident of Sweetwater, and a longtime resident of Athens. Ray was the son of the late Hobart Ray Whitlock and Versie Riddle Whitlock Martin. He was also preceded in death by one son, Greg Whitlock; one daughter, Kim Whitlock Altstatt; one sister, Janice Whitlock Jones; and two step-sisters, Meredith Martin Gray and Melinda Martin Pritchett.Ray was a member of First Baptist Church of Niota, as well as a member of BPOE Lodge 1927 and VFW Post 5146. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Meridian Sun Lodge 50 F&AM. He was associated with TSSAA as a football and basketball official for 22 years. He served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 33 years, retiring as a captain, and served in the Tennessee National Guard for eight years. She lived in the neighborhood on the border of Matawan for nearly two decades.In a statement Tuesday, United Airlines spokesman Charles Hobart said, "The thoughts and prayers of the entire United family are with Patricia's family."One of Polera's co-workers at Untied, Luciana Moreira, said in a message to NJ Advance Media agents at Newark airport "are in total shock.""Pat was loved by everyone," she said. "She will be missed."Other neighbors on Kirschman Drive said the small neighborhood is typically very quiet."They kept to themselves," said Eileen DeSousa, who lives across the street. "It's horrible. Never a sound from them."DeSousa said she didn't even hear the police cars pull up Saturday evening. The police left the neighborhood around midday Monday, DeSousa said.Polera was raised in Valley Stream in New York and moved to New Jersey in 1984, according to her obituary. She moved to her home in Old Bridge, which has a Matawan mailing address, in 1998. Her funeral has been set for Friday at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Union Beach. Visitations will be held at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Thursday and Friday.
