Family was extremely important to him and he greatly enjoyed family cookouts and gatherings at the family home in Auburn. Tony leaves the love of his life and wife of 71 years, Helen (Ruksnaitis) Leketa of Auburn, three children, Anthony F. Leketa and his fiancee Victoria Lehr of Gambrills, Maryland, Robert J. Leketa and his wife Melanie J. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cynthia A. Leketa of Auburn, Massachusetts, and a sister, Rita Lynch and her husband James Lynch of West Boylston. He leaves seven grandchildren Stacy Mongeau, Shane Leketa, Sherry Leketa, Sonya Crane, Stephanie Cleek, Sara Leketa and Anthony F. Leketa, Junior. He also was great-grandfather to ten great grandchildren and leaves numerous nieces and nephews.We will all miss our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. You will forever be a part of us. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Tony’s family from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 21st at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 22nd at Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Interment with military honors will be Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

Monday, March 27, 2017Lawrence and Brockton, never stopped being a street cop.An imposing figure who did daily workouts with a punching bag in his basement, ran marathons, and competed in the 2001 reality TV series “Lost” in Bolivia, Mr. Hayden displayed a legendary toughness coupled with deep compassion for underdogs and a devotion to public service, colleagues said.“He was someone I greatly admired. He was wonderful for the city,” said former Boston mayor Raymond L. Flynn. “I remember his professionalism, decency, and compassion, especially during the busing era.”Mr. Hayden, a Dorchester native who also served as undersecretary for state public safety and assistant general manager for safety for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, died of cancer Saturday in South Shore Hospital. He was 74 and lived in Hingham. He aims to create an online membership database; make a registration and renewal form for members on the chamber website; allow business owners to maintain their own pages on www.wcc.li; and create a WCC Instagram account.Benot said he also plans to advertise the new events and programs that the chamber board will introduce this year. For instance, the organization will be hosting regular breakfast and lunch networking events so that business owners may get to know each other. “We want to bring the chamber up to the 21st century,” he said of the new board. “I have a lot of new, innovative ideas about different methods to connect with everyone in the community.” Chamber leaders also honored several merchants and community groups. The cause of death is still under investigation but police do no suspect foul play, drugs or alcohol to be a factor.Smith, who last saw Herbert on Friday in the Lapeer gym reaching out to other student athletes, said he's proud to have witnessed the young man really grow into his role as a student athlete:"He'll always be a great example, you know, as a teammate, how to treat people," said Smith. He was transforming his body, getting into really good shape, trying to meet requirements to join the police force when he got out of Iowa State.”Smith said Thomson was passionate about lifting weights and had recently lost a lot of weight. Thomson posted on Facebook in October that he completed the Elite Edge Transformation Center's "20-pound challenge," in which members work to lose 20 pounds in six weeks."I respected him for that," Smith said. "I still don’t believe it."A 2010 study by the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital found deaths from weightlifting are rare. The center reported that from 1990 to 2007, almost 1 million Americans were treated in emergency rooms for weight-training injuries. Less than 2% resulted in long-term hospitalization.
