Monday, January 09, 2017Walter "Butch" Fike Jr. was a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 yearsWalter Fike Jr. was a longtime New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company firefighter and a mentor to junior firefighters.(Photo: New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company)A man who died early Friday morning after a single-vehicle car crash in Red Lion was a longtime firefighter in nearby New Bridgeville.Walter "Butch" Fike Jr., 50, died after his pickup crashed into a fence off of Country Club Road and later caught fire, the York County Coroner's Office reported. A news release said the reason for the truck leaving the road is unknown.The coroner's office said that Fike did not die as a result of the crash and that there was no trauma to his body. An autopsy performed Saturday determined that his cause of death was related to a cardiac event, Coroner Pam Gay said. His death has been ruled natural.Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate. A spokesperson said troopers determined Fike had been traveling north on Country Club Road when his truck left the roadway, went through a yard and struck a fence.Fike was a volunteer f...
