Monday, June 26, 2017William and Irene (Putnam) Fleming. He was raised on a rural farm by his grandparents, Walter and Pearl Putnam, in Callaway County, Mo. He graduated as valedictorian of his class from New Bloomfield High School, where he excelled in both baseball and track. Jim began a career working for the United States Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. as a computer programmer. He provided on-site support for the Joint Chiefs of Staff communications computers at the Pentagon during his career that spanned over 30 years. Military assignments his last 18 years included installing computer LANs (Local Area Network) at military Command-Posts in Saudi Arabia, Bosnia, and Somalia. Once Jim retired from the Department of Defense, he returned to Jefferson City to be closer to family and enjoyed living life at a slower pace.He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, 513. Survivors include: one aunt, Bea Putnam, several cousins, and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents.Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Saturday, April 08, 2017Morland and James Bedford (JB) Morland, both deceased.On June 16, 1996, he was married to Judy (Baumbach) Morland, who survives.A lifelong resident of the mid-Missouri area, Jimmy attended New Bloomfield schools. He joined the Navy in 1963 and “celebrated” his 17th birthday in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked in the construction field for his father, and others. He owned the Silver Dollar Saloon, worked at the Missouri State Penitentiary, owned Show Me Used Cars, co-owned Judy’s Cafe with his wife, and for the last 10 years transported traveler trailers from Indiana to dealers throughout the country. He also played in various bands with JD Wyatt and others, and then became the leader of The Southern Knights Band for many years. Monday, March 27, 2017James A. Frost, recently of Bloomfield, formerly of Simsbury, died March 16, 2017.He was born on May 15, 1918 in Manchester, England and was the son of Rev. Harry A. Frost and Janet Wilson Frost. He received a B.A. from Columbia College and PhD. (Amer. History) from Columbia University. Dr. Frost served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII becoming a Statistical Control Officer with the rank of Major. Following military service, Dr. Frost served as a Professor of American History and then Academic Dean at Oneonta State College in Oneonta, N.Y. At the same time, he served in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years rising to Lieutenant Colonel. He also authored or co-authored seven books and contributed articles to numerous publications and encyclopedias, mostly on the history of New York State. Dr. Frost’s scholarship was recognized when he was made an Honorary Fellow of the New York State Historical Association.
