MDOC, until his retirement in 2005.He enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. After basic training in San Antonio, he was stationed at Perrin AFB, Denison, Texas, from 1963 to 1966 when he was transferred to Tainan AFB, Taiwan, serving with the PACAF until October 1967, when he received an honorable discharge. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.Steve served as Mayor of St. Martins from 1986 until 1991, during which time he acted as Master of Ceremonies for the dedication of the relocation of Highway 50 through St. Martins. He served as Mayor again from 1993 until 1995. He also served two terms on the City Council and was Chairman of St. Martins Board of Adjustments. He was also a Committee Chairman with the St. Martins Bicentennial Commission from 1974 until 1976.He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church; a charter member of St. Martin Knights of Columbus Council No. 7194; a former member of the 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus, Dan C. Coppin Assembly No. 573. He was also a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; a member of the Mid-Mo Old Car Club; a lifetime Missouri Conservation Partner; and a member of the National Rifle Association. He also had served as president and secretary of Apache Flats Lions Club, president of St. Martin Home and School Association, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson City Jaycees.He enjoyed retreating to the Lake on summer weekends, boating and fishing. Steve also liked hunting and golfing, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He thoroughly loved watching his grandchildren participate in sporting activities. Chowning, 65, of Memphis, Missouri went to heaven on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri after a three year battle with lung cancer.Tanya was born August 29, 1951 in Denison, Iowa to Harold Dale and Beverly Jean (Habenicht) Gore.  As a young child she grew up with her four siblings in sunny Miami, Florida. Tanya and her siblings spent many hours cracking coconuts, eating guava and playing at the city park. Their parents never knew who they might bring home from the park for a visit!She married Michael Kerkmann from Omaha, Nebraska in 1967 and from this union three children were born.  On June 7, 1996 she married James Everett Chowning at her parent’s home in Crawford, Missouri. Tanya loved being with people. She was the manager/owner of Spence’s Tavern for many years and also enjoyed working as a CNA while living in Omaha. Tanya’s children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. Alday would be remembered for the deep commitment he showed to his community."He made some mistakes in his career, but he was a good man who had Walls at heart," current Walls Mayor Patti Denison said."He was always loyal to his town and to his county in every legislative vote he made, just as he was when he was mayor of Walls," added former state Rep. Pat Nelson,  one of those defeated along with Alday.State Rep. Dan Eubanks of Walls, who replaced Alday in the District 25 seat, expressed condolences on his Facebook page."It is with sadness that I post that the city of Walls, and the state of Mississippi has lost a true public servant today," Eubanks wrote Monday. "Gene Alday passed away last night. Gene served as our Walls Police Chief, Mayor, and ultimately the State Representative for all the residents of District 25. My prayers go out to all of Gene's family and friends this morning."Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery near Tunica. Jill Marie Doll died peacefully in Denison, TX, on October 8, 2016, at the age of 69.  Jill is survived by her father, Andrew Townsend of East Lansing, MI, and wife, Carol; brother, Dr. Lee Townsend of East Lansing, MI, and wife, Marilyn; son, Christian Doll of Mansfield, TX, and wife, Jennifer; and grandson, Jackson Doll of Mansfield, TX. She is preceded in death by mother, Joanna Townsend; and brother, Terry Townsend. Jill was born on March 20, 1947, in San Antonio, TX, and was raised in Lansing, MI.  She moved to Texas and eventually settled in Arlington, TX. Jill welcomed one child into her home and set about teaching him to be loyal and work hard. Her son remembers her as a mother who always loved him unconditionally and who encouraged him to pursue his goals. Jill was a talented crafter and often could be found working on a new project. She enjoyed fellowship and spent many happy hours with friends and family while she was shopping, playing cards or Bingo, or having a margarita. She was a generous individual who t...
