Roena Frances Crawford, 89, Willis, Texas, formerly of Nevada, died Saturday, April 22, at her home in Texas. She was born Feb. 17, 1928 in Camp Point, Ill., to Clarence and Beatrice (Dutton) Mensendike. She married Burl David Crawford Sr., on Aug. 29, 1948, in Peoria, Ill.Survivors include two sons, Michael, and Burl Jr.; one brother, Jim Mensendike; one sister, Bonnie Huss; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Sr.; one son, David; and three brothers, Richard, Ray and Gene.Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 28, at Moore Cemetery in Nevada. Mable Overholts(Photo: Submitted)Mable Adeline Thomas OverholtsJuly 25, 1915 — May 16, 2016Mable was born to Edward and Clara Louise Thomas in Klondike, Oregon, a few miles east of Wasco. She worked on her father’s wheat farm while growing up and graduated from Wasco High in 1932. She attended the nursing school at Emanuel Hospital, graduating in 1938.She married Marvin Overholts in 1939. They stayed in Portland, where she worked at Emanuel in the nursery for the next six years. In 1947, Mable and Marvin bought a new gas station at North Santiam, operating it until 1958. Mable wrote news articles for the Stayton Mail on happenings in the North Santiam area.In 1953, they moved to Stayton. Mable retired after 25 years at Stayton Hospital, but continued to work in doctor’s offices. She helped with Red Cross blood drives, keeping her nursing license until age 75. She was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of American Revolution.Marvin and Mable enjoyed RV travel, crossing the U.S. and Canada. They visited all 50 states, including Hawaii in 1994.
