During his membership in the Council he served as the Grand Knight and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Cursillo, Our Mother of Mercy Church Parish Council, Usher Board at Our Mother of Mercy Church, Church Point Trail Riders where at one time he did server as the President and also was a member of the Southern Consumer Co-op. Mr. Malbrough was a bus driver for Acadia Parish School Board for twenty five years. He was the owner of Malbrough’s grocery store in Church Point and was a life long agriculture farmer in Acadia Parish. Monday, June 19, 2017Just outside, a giant American flag, erected more than three stories in the air and attached to an aerial fire truck, graced the entrance of the funeral home. His book, Million Dollars Worth of Nerve, profiles the power-players of Paradise Valley and Black Bottom, a residential neighborhood that existed generally where Lafayette Park is now, bounded by Gratiot Avenue to the north, Congress to the south, the Grand Trunk Railroad (the present day Dequindre Cut) to the east and Brush Street to the west.Exactly where the neighborhoods started and ended is up for debate, Coleman said."It's not like these communities were codified in boundaries at City Hall. They were loose in general."Still, what's clear is that the two areas were vibrant, bustling with activity.Joe Louis co-owned a restaurant, the Brown Bomber's Chicken Shack, with Sunnie Wilson on East Vernor (it reportedly lost the legendary boxer $40,000, according to LIFE magazine).Charles Diggs, later the state's first black state senator, was a leading funeral home owner there, as was James Cole, whose funeral home business survives to this day. Monday, June 19, 2017Following his honorable discharge in 1955, Mr. Shelton finished his business degree at Indiana Tech. He soloed and began earning his pilot’s credentials at Wilkes Field in Fayetteville where he did buy that aircraft and began flight instructing both in Fayetteville and Huntsville, Ala., in 1963.Mr. Shelton, still actively flying until Nov. 30, 2016, ended his aviation career having given well over 20,000 hours of flight instruction. He graduated over 1,000 students, and as an FAA flight examiner and beginning in 1987, he administered a United States’ record 10,379 check ride flights.His personal logbook documents 38,971 actual flight hours with ratings as an airline transport pilot, single and multi-engine instrument instructor and Cessna Citation jet.Mr. Shelton actually had two careers. A charter member of NASA, the Marshall Space Flight Center, he and his colleagues made aerospace history during our nation’s space race. He was there from the beginning working with Dr. Werner Von Braun on all the launch vehicles from the Redstone Rocket to the Saturn V Moon Rocket, finishing after 38 years with the Shuttle program in 1993.The patriarch of three generations of pilots, Clyde instructed his wife, Sara, in 1966; his son, Scott, now a Boeing 747 captain for Delta Airlines on his 16th birthday; and his grandson, Nevada, currently a captain in the United States Army flying the Blackhawk helicopter on his 16th birthday, as well.Clyde Shelton’s legacy is firmly established in those lives he touched. Saturday, June 10, 2017Pastor Brian Wade Newby, 47, of Kingman went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Franciscan Health Lafayette, after a sudden heart attack.He was born May 3, 1970, at Danville, Indiana, to Curt and Wendy (Horstmann) Newby.He graduated from Southmount High School and proudly served in the United States Army during Desert Storm. After returning from the military he studied Industrial Maintenance at Ivy Tech Community College and Electro-Mechanical Engineering at Sinclair Community College.On Oct. 4, 2003, he married the love of his life, Tamara Dee (Hunt) Newby, who survives.Brian previously worked at Pace Dairy in Crawfordsville for 15 years, where he met his wife, Tami. He currently was pastor at Kingman United Methodist Church, an associate pastor at Spirit of Life Ministries and owned and operated Integra Engineering in Kingman.He loved people, woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting, anything outdoors, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
