Monday, June 26, 2017Shari P. Vest, 66, of Salem, VA and Poca, WV, went to be with the Lord after a long illness on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. She is preceded in death by husband, Kermit Lee Vest; parents, George Howard and Ethel Belle (Kincaid) Phillips; maternal grandparents, Norah Rinehart and Thomas Kincaid; and paternal grandparents, Lula Scott and Abner Phillips. Left to cherish her memory are children, Leon Franklin, Jr. and wife, Melinda, Kim Vest and husband, Matt Clark, and Chris Vest and wife, Janice; siblings, Judy Casto, Greg Phillips, Stewart Phillips, and Tammy Phillips; grandchildren, Josh Franklin, Eli Franklin, Gabe Franklin, Grace Franklin, Tori Vest, Ethan Vest, and Gavin Vest; and dear friends, Kim and Oscar Smith, Sharon and Lee Linkous, Jack Clifton and many others. Shari graduated from Montgomery High School in Montgomery, WV in 1968. She worked as a Treasurer’s Clerk for Roanoke County for many years as well as in the ticket office of the Salem Civic Center. Monday, June 26, 2017George Martin Hoffman, 81, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Henry, IL, a son of the late Sylvester and Thelma Bush Hoffman and had been a Salem area resident since 1977. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy after twenty years, which included service during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country, he was employed at Community Hospital as a Bio-Medical Technician. George enjoyed traveling, was an avid fisherman, and later in life became an avid armchair fisherman, but mostly enjoyed the time spent with family, grandkids and great-grandkids. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rollie Phillips, three brothers, and three sisters. Monday, June 26, 2017KELLY, Frederick George "Fred", passed away June 22, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Peggy) (Heffernan) Kelly; his four children, sons - Kenneth Kelly (Kerry), Raymond Kelly (Kelly), Michael Kelly (Patti) and daughter, Mary Beth Seamands; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandchildren, Meghan and Frederick Kelly. Fred was born January 18, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. After a successful term in the US Army as a Captain, Fred owned a successful landscape company in Connecticut and was Superintendent of Parks in Greenwich, CT during his young adulthood, then moved to Arizona in 1970 with Peggy and his children. During his career in Arizona, Fred held many positions including Assistant Registrar of Contractors for the State of Arizona, and a "Cactus Cop" for the Department of Agriculture, and was featured in Reader's Digest. Fred was an integral part in the building of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, and the street is named for him. F...

He was an avid hunter who enjoyed his many big game hunting trips out west.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Caya; his brothers, George (Diane) of Eastman and Thomas (Sharon) of Seneca; his sisters, Margaret (Charles) Schmidt of Orlando, Fla., and Grace McDaneld of Plattsmouth, Neb.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael; his sisters, Rosemary Brown and Agnes Zimmer.A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman. The Rev. Victor Feltes officiating with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be accorded graveside.
