The words cast in relief upon the bell’s copper sides identify its historic origin.“Catholic Colony Established 1913 By John P. Carroll, Bishop of Helena,” the raised lettering reads. “Donated By Rt. Rev. Tuesday, April 18, 2017Ryan, 90, of Cuero passed away at home on April 14, 2017. She was born Jan. 23, 1927 in Yorktown, Texas to the late Emil Joseph and Anna Rohan Wagner. Anna married Richard Ryan on June 13, 1953 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cuero and the Altar Society. She loved spending time with her family, gardening and needle work. Anna graduated from Yorktown High School and Santa Rosa School of Nursing in San Antonio. She was a R.N. who worked with Polio patients at Warms Springs, plant nurse at Dupont and for Dr O.E. Hall.She is survived by daughters, Virginia (Wayne) Sparck of Evansville, Indiana and Kathleen Ryan of Houston; sons, Kevin Ryan of Cuero and Gary Ryan of Austin; grandchildren, Erin (Dustin) Sparck of Los Angeles, CA and Sarah, Kate, and Gunnar Ryan of Austin; sisters, Leona Berckenhoff and Doris Boldt of Yorktown; brother, Al (Myrlin) of Yorktown; and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by parents; husband; son, Richard III; sisters, Olga and Beth; brothers, Ed, Vic and Gilbert; and two infant sisters.Visitation will be Monday, April 17 at Freund Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 6:30. Joseph grew up in Marshfield and attended St. John’s Catholic School. He attended Holy Cross Seminary. Joseph then went on to receive his master’s degree in psychology from the University of Detroit. He served three years and nine months in the Air Force; one of those years was served in Vietnam. Joseph received the Air Force Commendation Medal for working with orphans.On May 28, 1966, he was ordained as a priest; he was called to serve at St. Joe’s Catholic Church of Menomonee, Wis., St. Stephen’s Church in Stevens Point, Wis., St. Mary’s Church of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and St. Lawrence Church of Wisconsin Rapids. He was also the Family Life Director for the Diocese of La Crosse, Wis., and co-founded the Family Center Inc., in Wisconsin Rapids for abused women and children.On November 6h, 1988, Joseph married the love of his life, Rosemary Czappa and they had 28 beautiful years together. Joseph worked as a psychotherapist for the University of Minnesota Medical Center of Fairview, Minn. He also worked for the Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin.
