Monday, June 19, 2017Anderson, Executive Director at Brightview Avondell. “The county’s Senior Emergency Fund is essential for seniors in need.”“Senior Emergency Funds have made a difference in the quality of life and independence for many seniors in the county,” adds Karen Winkowski at the Office on Aging’s Senior Emergency Fund. “We are honored to be included in this special event.”Age groups for the 5K include children 12 and under, ages 13-59 and over 60. Cash prizes for the top three male and female runners will be awarded and medals will be given in each of the following categories: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+. A one kilometer walk will also be held for all ages.Brightview Avondell and Brightview Bel Air are Event sponsors for the 5K. Saturday, April 08, 2017Eugene High School, she taught school for a year, receiving the teacher of the year award! Over the years, she was the assistant manager for Sears Mail Order stores in Jefferson City, Independence, and Clinton, Mo. She was a legal secretary, then an auditor for the Missouri Tax Commission for several years before retiring from the Missouri Bar Association in 1989. During those years she sold real estate part time. Velma accepted Christ as a child and was always involved in her church, singing in the choir and teaching children's Sunday School classes at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. In 1994, Velma and Cliff moved to Augusta, GA, where she lived for 15 years and was a member of Warren Baptist Church. She moved to Chatsworth, CA in 2009 to live with her daughter, Vicki, who became her principal caregiver. She was proud of her ancestry and traced her lineage back to Abraham Musick and Sarah Lewis Musick to be in DAR where she served in several offices, including Regent of the Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter from 1982-1984 and a sponsor for the Monticello chapter of CAR. In addition she was a charter member and President of the Sterling Chapter of the American Business Women's association in 1977. She was actively involved in the women’s UCT auxiliary, becoming state president for a year. She enjoyed helping others. She volunteered at the Sheltered Workshop and was the first to take a meal or send assistance when she knew about a need. In addition to her daughters, Velma is survived by her five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Jamie (Mahlon) Andrews, Dexter and Jimmy; John (Ruth) Yorio, Lily, Josiah, Eli and Caleb; Nick (Marissa) Palatas, Vienna; Phillip Palatas, Alex, Natalia, and Anora; and Cameron Palatas; and many nephews. Monday, February 27, 2017Georgia Elizabeth Evens Sublette, 101, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017 at Independence Court.She was born on her grandparents' farm in Putnam County, Ind., on Feb. 23, 1915 to the late Roy and Hazel (Haymaker) Evens.She enjoyed her early years in the country, later attending Putnamville School and graduating from Greencastle High School in 1933.She worked as a secretary for the Putnam County agricultural agent and for the Putnam County superintendent of schools, retiring from her position as payroll clerk at DePauw University in 1985. Georgia married David G. Sublette in 1936 and resided in historic Putnamville until recent years when she moved near her son's home in Erie, Pa.She was a member of the Putnamville United Methodist Church all of her life and contributed generously by singing in the choir, playing piano, and serving multiple terms as secretary of UMW.Georgia was the inspiration for the Dr. Horn/Putnamville Museum and generously shared pictures and memorabilia collected over her many years in the community.
