McShane, 73, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Le Mars.Joyce Elaine McShane was born Dec. 31, 1943 in Vermillion, South Dakota to parents Lee and Agnes (Jacob) Paulson.Joyce grew up in Union County, South Dakota. She married Virgil McKee In 1961 and to this union was born her children Eddie and Diane. She married Eugene Wahlstrom in1969 and to this union was born her daughter Tanya. She married Randy Puttman in 1977 and then Donald McShane in 2000.She worked for the Community Program in Le Mars, Mid-Sioux Opportunities in Remsen, Woodbury County Community Action, owned and operated Daisy J’s Janitorial in Phoenix, Arizona, was a certified nurse’s aide in Montana, Iowa and South Dakota, and was a private home health aide in Montana and South Dakota. Joyce retired at age 50 due to an injury she received while working.Her hobbies and interests included cooking, remodeling, traveling, going to “goodie” stores, and being a member of the Isaac Walton League of America.Survivors include her children, Eddie McKee of Hawarden, Diane (Colli...

Freking, 59, of Whitewater, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, from injuries sustained in an accident near Tulsa, Oklahoma.Steve was born Feb. 6, 1958, in Le Mars, to Herman "Junior" and Betty Freking. He grew up on a farm near Le Mars and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1977. Following graduation, he attended a community college in South Dakota and then graduated from Iowa State University in 1984 with a degree in aeronautical engineering.Steve Married Micayla Holthe on Oct. 19, 1985, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple lived in Wichita, Kansas before moving to Whitewater, Kansas, where they resided for 25 years. They have resided in Skiatook, Oklahoma, for the last year.Steve was a lifelong member of Theta Ki at Iowa State University and of the Knights of Columbus.He enjoyed being with his family, designing airplanes, golfing, watching Iowa State Cyclones, anything free, DQ ice cream with Oreos and Braum's burgers.Steve enjoyed the times spent with family, including brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews.He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Micayla, of Walthill, Nebraska; three sons, Joshua (...
Monday, February 27, 2017Betty J. Kommes, 71, of Le Mars died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's in Sioux City. Elizabeth (Betty) Julia Johnson was born on Dec. 6, 1945, in Le Mars, the daughter of Roy and Myra (Specht) Johnson. She graduated from Marcus High School in 1964, then — with a passion for helping others — became a surgical technician. Ever the loyal woman, Betty spent 39 years at Floyd Valley Hospital as a surgical tech. She was committed to both her career and her team, who lovingly referred to her as B.J. On May 5, 1973, Betty married Leonard Joseph Kommes at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple was blessed with three children — Brent, Angela, and Heidi — and spent much of their time together as a family. Outside of the couple’s weekly date night activities, the family of five enjoyed annual family vacations and spent many weekends on the lake boating and on the golf course. Siple, 69, of Le Mars, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017.Linda Faye Siple was born on March 9, 1947 in Cherokee, one of three children born to Robert and LaVonne (Hurd) Paslay. She graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1965 and furthered her education at the Le Mars Beauty College.On Dec. 30, 1968, Linda and James Siple were united in marriage at the Cherokee United Methodist Church. When Jim returned from the Vietnam War, the couple made their home in Le Mars.Linda worked as a cosmetologist at Gingham Girls in Sioux City. She would later join Jim and operate the Pantry Café in Le Mars. Along with owning the café, Linda opened The Right Match, a store that specialized in tennis equipment and clothing.After closing The Right Match, Linda took classes at Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City where she studied as a surgery technician. She began in the housekeeping department at Floyd Valley Hospital and later worked as a surgical technician’s assistant...

Mike Knepper officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the church. Burial will be in the Chapel Cemetery, Falmouth, Illinois.
