MANCHESTER, NJ — Funeral services have been set for Russell C. Alexander, a church deacon who lived in Iselin for many years and in Whiting, according to Costello-Runyon Funeral Home of Iselin.Mr. Alexander passed away Saturday at the VA New Jersey Health Care System facility in Lyons. He was 93.Born in Newark, Mr. Alexander lived in Iselin for many years before moving to Whiting. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.Mr. Alexander was one of the first ordained deacons at St. Cecelia's Church in Iselin, receiving ordination in 1981. He was a chaplain at the Menlo Park Veterans Home and a deacon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3639, where he was a Fourth-Degree Knight.Mr. Alexander was a tool-and-die maker for Edison Mold and Tool in Kenilworth, retiring in 1983, and later owned and operated a printing shop for many years in Iselin.He is predeceased by his dau...

Thomas Schnellinger, 45, of North Andover, Mass., as the man who died skiing earlier this month at Mount Sunapee Resort ski area.Schnellinger, who worked at DEKA Research and Development in Manchester, was found unresponsive on the Skyway trail on March 12.The ski patrol delivered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and he was transported to New London Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.According to an online obituary, Schnellinger worked at DEKA for the last 17 years. Thomas had exceptional welding and mechanical design skills and was named on many patents as a co-inventor.Survivors include his mother, Dagmar; his brother, Andrew; and his fiancée, Angela, who lives in Merrimack.Calling hours are today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Conte Funeral Home in North Andover, Mass.

James A. Frost, recently of Bloomfield, formerly of Simsbury, died March 16, 2017.He was born on May 15, 1918 in Manchester, England and was the son of Rev. Harry A. Frost and Janet Wilson Frost. He received a B.A. from Columbia College and PhD. (Amer. History) from Columbia University. Dr. Frost served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII becoming a Statistical Control Officer with the rank of Major. Following military service, Dr. Frost served as a Professor of American History and then Academic Dean at Oneonta State College in Oneonta, N.Y. At the same time, he served in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years rising to Lieutenant Colonel. He also authored or co-authored seven books and contributed articles to numerous publications and encyclopedias, mostly on the history of New York State. Dr. Frost’s scholarship was recognized when he was made an Honorary Fellow of the New York State Historical Association. McGilvray offered to help and eventually let McCaffrey move into his spare bedroom.That was one of many reminiscences about McGilvray on Wednesday, the day after the 51-year-old Democratic state senator from Hooksett died at a Boston hospital.“I would definitely, definitely not be in this position without him,” McCaffrey said. “So I’m forever grateful.” McGilvray was an educator, coach, community leader and first-term senator representing Bow and Dunbarton, along with parts of Manchester, Candia and Hooksett.
