Condolences may be shared with his family online at www.smithfh.com.Edwin Charles Jahlas was born the son of William Henry Jahlas and Ruth Mae (Hessenius) Jahlas on June 5, 1947, in Marengo. He was raised on the family farm near Deep River and graduated in 1966 from HLV High School in Victor. Following his education he began working at Amana Refrigeration in Amana.Ed honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He returned from the service and worked at Amana and also farmed with his dad. On Jan. 9, 1971, he was united in marriage to Connie Jane Beck at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Victor. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Amy. They resided and farmed in the rural Deep River area all of their lives.Ed was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a 4-H leader. He dearly loved his family and adored his grandchildren.  He always looked forward to time spent with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He was also an outdoorsman who loved farming the land, raising horses, and hunting. Interment will be at St Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Watkins. Maxwell "Max" Wood, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 in Fairhope where he had resided for 25 years.Max was born to John Hackworth Wood and Olga Pope Wood in the small community of Dixon Mills in Marengo County.After serving four years in the United States Air Force as a flight engineer, Max returned home and enrolled at the University of West Alabama, receiving both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Max completed his post graduate MAA studies at the University of Alabama.Max retired after serving 35 years as an educator, fulfilling the positions of teacher, principal and superintendent of education.Also active in civic affairs in Linden and Jackson, Max was president of the Linden County Club and Linden Rotary Club.While residing in Jackson, Max served on the Jackson Zoning Board and the Jackson Planning Commission; he was chairman of both.After retiring in 1991, Max and Susan moved to Fairhope where he enjoyed many years of golf.
