Dale "Mr. D" DeFrance, 81, of Marshalltown, a man who lived life's three greatest passions- racing, racing and of course, racing, passed away on the morning of Monday, May 22nd, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Turner Cemetery in rural Garwin. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. EVANSDALE — Jimmy Sonksen, 71, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Feb. 2.He was born Dec. 26, 1945, in Marshalltown, son of Erwin and Ardella Petitt Sonksen. He married Sharon Kay Wilson on July 21, 1995, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1964 and worked in machine and assembly at John Deere for 32 years, retiring in 1997. In the foreground is the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.A local mortician who began his full-time career in 1987 with the former Estel-Perrin Funeral Home is expanding his business.Marty Mitchell, owner-operator of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home at 1209 Iowa Avenue West, announced late last week he had purchased adjoining property at 1201 Iowa Ave. West from Casey’s General Stores.The site once housed a Casey’s General Store, but it closed several months ago when the company opened a replacement store approximately two blocks east also on Iowa Avenue West.“First, we will use the property for additional parking,” MItchell said. “We will use the building too.
