Monday, June 19, 2017RENS -- David Lee Abrams, 76, husband of Martha Ann Owens Abrams, of 110 Shady Lane, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Joseph Preston “JP” and Jessie Mitchell Abrams. He was an Associate member of Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church and the Men’s Bible Sunday School Class. He was a past member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army Reserves. He was a graduate of Upper Iowa University, where he earned a BA Degree. Mr. Abrams retired from Monsanto after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Catfish Feastival Board of Directors, and was an active and involved volunteer in any Ware Shoals community activity. He was a member of the RE/Water Greenville SC, committee serving to monitor the needs and quality of the Reedy River Water Shed. Mr. Abrams was a member of the Laurens County Cruise Club and was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, boating and golf. Saturday, April 08, 2017Betty had two children Scott and Mary Ellen.Bob worked as a heavy construction superintendent until his retirement. He enjoyed raising horses, cattle, fishing, gardening and helping his grandsons Preston John and Aaron Whayne with their music.Bob was preceded in death by both parents Earl Joseph Mayes and Thelma Roberdia “Caldwell” Mayes, wife Betty A Mayes, a son John Earl Mayes, brother Thomas Earl Mayes and his first wife Gladys June “Macon” Mayes.Bob is survived by his daughter Nancy Ruth Mayes, and grandsons Preston John and Aaron Whayne Mayes, of Vinita, Oklahoma. Also, a sons Robert Whayne Mayes of Vinita, Oklahoma, and stepson Scott Lamb of Owasso, Oklahoma, and daughter Mary Ellen Smoke of Spavinaw, Oklahoma as well as, two brothers Ray and Jerry Mayes, and two sisters Joan Flock and Carolyn Olson all of the Ketchum/Langley area. Bob had fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved pets, Leah and Sissy. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ketchum with Jerry Mayes and Elder John Moyer officiating.
