Enid High School graduating with the class of 1952. He married Josephine Myers on Christmas Day, 1952. He joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years. He attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas, and then he attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas where he obtained his Masters of Divinity Degree in 1972. He pastored the First Baptist Church of Schulenburg, Texas until 1976, after which he and Josephine returned to Enid where he later retired. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Nellie; two brothers, Arley Batchelder, and Bobby Batchelder; two sisters, Vivian Yoho and Berna Semrad. He is survived by four children, Rhonda Doss and husband Dave, of Enid; Pearl Jokerst and husband Joe, of Enid; Rene Bohn and husband Greg of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado; Richard Batchelder and wife Lisa, of Stillwater; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.Memorials in Richard’s name may be made to the Enid First Baptist Church Youth Ministry or the Susan G. You don't think of a man. So what programs are there for a female veteran's spouse?" Gayle-Bennett asked.At the same time veterans halls - such as the Veterans of Foreign War posts - have a history of being more male dominated."You think old men.
