He was born August 9, 1947, in Beloit, WI, the son of Lawrence E. and Marian L. (Resler) Griffin. David was a 1965 graduate of Beloit Catholic High School, and a former member of the U.S. Army Reserve. He married Kathleen “Kathy” L. Belcher on June 29, 1968 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. David was employed for over 34 years as a beloved teacher for the Rockton School District, beginning with the Rockton Grade School, and retiring in 2003 from the Stephen Mack Middle School. He was a volunteer with the Turtle Township Fire Department, earning the rank of Captain, and was also employed as a Fire Inspector for the City of Beloit Fire Department. David was the founder and former President of the Wisconsin K9 SOS Search and Rescue, a member of the National Rifle Association and the Beloit Rifle Club. Melaas, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 in his home, after a short time with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Denis was born Dec. 9, 1947 to the late Wilbur and Angelus (White) Melaas in Beloit, Wis. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1965 and completed his education after earning his Teaching degree from UW Stout. Denis enlisted into the U.S. Navy on June 26, 1970 and served his Country until his honorable discharge on June 25, 1974.He married Mary Jo Fischer on Feb. 14, 1988. Denis worked at Fairbanks Morse and worked as an electrician for the City of Beloit and Department of Public Works – Parks Department, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the American Legion. Denis enjoyed tinkering in his shed, reading the daily paper, watching cooking shows and old westerns and golfing with his friends and brothers. He especially enjoyed making special “hors d’oeuvres” for his grandkids. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Dale married Roberta H. Smith on June 16, 1951 in First United Methodist Church, Beloit, WI. She predeceased him on January 8, 2008. Dale was formerly employed by Besly-Welles, Regal Beloit and North American Tool. He was a very active member of River of Life United Methodist Church where he was on numerous committees throughout the years.
