Monday, June 26, 2017Providence, Rhode Island and graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas in 1970 with a degree in journalism.He studied further at the University of Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia and then worked as a general assignment reporter for the Jefferson City News-Tribune in the early 1970s. He served for twenty-five years as a state public information officer in Missouri State Government, including seventeen years with the State Emergency Management Agency, retiring in August, 2002.Upon retirement, Dennis enjoyed hiking, photography, writing, and spending time with his two grandchildren. He was a long-term member of the Jefferson City Photo Club, the Runge Nature Center Hiking Club, and the Midweek Trekkers. He cherished annual trips to Rhode Island and the New England states to visit family and friends. Dennis was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he enjoyed their book discussion groups. He was an officer and board member of the Jefferson City Chapter of the AARP, Chapter 4401 for many years, and wrote articles and features of interest to seniors for the monthly Active Times/Active Life supplement to the Jefferson City News-Tribune. He was a member of the Jefferson City/Cole County Senior Nutrition Council for six years.Survivors include: his wife of twenty-five years, Judy Mobrice; one step-daughter, Kimberly Anne Johnson and her husband Stephen of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Matthew Johnson and Sarah Johnson of Jefferson City, Mo.; one nephew, Paul D. Monday, June 19, 2017Children are Linda Williams and husband Doug of Lebanon, Michael Barber of Lebanon, Donna Hendrickson of Spearman, Texas, Lori McCullough and husband David of Sedalia, David Sorrell and wife Deann of Columbia and Scott Sorrell and wife Missy of Rolla.Al lived many years in Monroe City where he worked at a hotel before he went to work for the Henderson Produce Company where he became plant manager.While working at Henderson’s, Al was drafted into the Army. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was trained as a surgical technician and served in a medical unit for the 192nd Ordnance Battalion. He served in the South Pacific during the Second World War including the Battle of Okinawa. Al was the last surviving veteran of the company with whom he served.After the war, Al returned to his work at Henderson’s until he moved to Sedalia in 1965 where he worked for MFA, Swift and Company, and Central States Tool and Engine. Al worked at Central States until his full retirement in 1994.In his spare time, Al enjoyed working on cars and small engines, particularly lawn mowers. He called himself a “neighborhood mechanic” but others often referred to him as “Mr. Fix-It” because it seemed like he could repair just about anything.One of Al’s favorite roles in life was that of “Papa ‘Rel.” He was a beloved grandfather and was even called Papa ‘Rel by his grandchildren’s friends.He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lucas Koch, Lance Koch, Kady Roberts, Lori Sorrell, Justin Sorrell, Lacey Belt, Shelby Teeter, Andrew Sorrell, Dana Kizzier, Jamie Malone, Lisa Shubert, India McCullough, Paige Reque, Kearn McCullough, Abbey Sorrell, Jack Sorrell, Reid Sorrell, Justin Sorrell, Tristah Sorrell, Kyndra Sorrell, Thomas Sorrell; and many great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, step-mother Bertie Sorrell, and his first wife Donna, he was also preceded in death...
Saturday, June 10, 2017James and Emilie (Bergmann) Delany. Edward graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Corona in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy V-12 program. Edward was enrolled at Columbia University, graduating in 1945 with a Bachelors of Engineering. He immediately entered service in the Navy with the rank of Ensign and was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines, billeted on the USS PC-1133. In 1946, he was released from active service to inactive service in the Naval Reserves. Ed returned home to Long Island and earned his Masters of Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, taking classes at night and working during the day. During this time Ed started his lifelong career at Perkin-Elmer. He also married his love, Lucille in May of 1948. In 1951 Ed was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Key West, FL aboard the USS Sarsfield (DD-837). In 1953, Ed was honorably discharged, moved to Norwalk, CT, and started his family. In 1954 Ed moved his young family to Ridgefield, CT, residing there for 61 years, until he moved to The Greens at Cannondale in Wilton, CT.During his time in Ridgefield, Ed was a member of St. Mary Church. Ed was also active in the Columbia Engineering Golden Lions Society, the Knights of Columbus, the Ridgefield Men’s Club, the Ridgefield AARP chapter, and was an honorary member of the Italian American Club.
