Monday, June 26, 2017Church, rural Beemer. In this same church she was married to Ervin R. Roth by Rev. Carl Hellman on January 1, 1939.After their marriage they lived on a farm two and a half miles southwest of Bancroft and lived in the Bancroft vicinity until 1944, then moved to the Pender area and later purchased a farm eight miles north of Beemer in 1945.The Roths were members of Zion Lutheran Church at Bancroft and then at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Pender, where all of their children were confirmed. Iona was organist, Sunday School Teacher, and chairwoman of Ladies Aid.After moving to Omaha she joined Bethany Lutheran Church, their Library Guild, and served as treasurer and chairwoman. Saturday, April 08, 2017Andy. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1946-1947.On June 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Darlene Rider at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. The couple moved to the family farm south of Wisner, where he also was a Feed Salesman, did custom baling, and was a Farm Bureau Insurance Representative. Henry later went to work as a representative for Farmers Mutual Insurance and the couple built a new home in Beemer, moving into it in 1973. Henry was instrumental in forming the first hog co-op in Cuming County. He later started Nebraskaland Farm and Home Realty in 1976 and operated it until his retirement.Henry was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beemer, Beemer American Legion Post #159, and the Cuming Co. Historical Society, where he served as its first president. He loved genealogy, collecting tokens, where he belonged to a Token Collecting Club. He and Darlene enjoyed traveling and especially spending time in Branson, MO the last several years. He was a pilot and loved flying in his younger years.Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Darlene of Beemer, NESon-Zelan and wife Sarah Heller of Rogers, NE and family Katie (Benjamin) Mattson of Omaha and children-twins Royce and Magnus, and Hawken First Lt. He served six years as assistant pastor, instructor and guidance counselor at St John’s parish and school in Bancroft. Don was granted laicization by Pope Paul IV in 1976 and married Linda Meister on Jan. 19, 1976. He adopted Linda’s three sons: Brett, Corey and Dennis Meister.In 1975, Don was employed as executive director of the Cherokee County Work-Activity Center and remained in that position until his retirement in 2002. One year later, he began part-time employment as chaplain for Tyson Foods in Cherokee, a position he held until his full retirement in 2010.Don’s life was centered on his Lord, his wife and family. He closely followed the progress of his children and grandchildren and their involvement in school and out of school. He was an active Catholic and a dedicated follower of Jesus, his risen Lord. Don was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Name Council. He enjoyed making things of steel and wood, especially the “cross of the Resurrection,” which he made and gave to many persons in the community. Don enjoyed making bread, cooking, fixing things, playing the guitar, observing social processes and nature.He is survived by his wife, Linda of Marcus; three sons, Brett (Kelleen) of Atlanta, Corey (Gina) of Moville, and Dennis (Angie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; Kaitlin (Brenton) Brown, Brooklyn (Joshua) Neely, Brady, Carly, Jack Meister, Evan and Emily Meister; one great-grandchild Alice Brown; one brother Jim Agostine and his companion Trudy Gries, and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Rev. Dan Guenther will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation will be at Holy Name Church beginning at 4 p.m., Wednesday. The Knights of Columbus will lead the rosary at 3:30 p.m. The family will be present for visitation from 4-7 p.m. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus is assisting the family with arrangements.
