Monday, February 06, 2017Ruth Fridley1926-2017Ruth Fridley, beloved mother and grandmother, and a resident of the Big Bend Healthcare Center, Valley Park, Missouri, passed away on Jan. 18, 2017, after a long illness.Ruth was born Ruth V. Kirby in Armstrong, Missouri in 1926, the oldest of seven children. In 1947, she married Stanley Fridley and the couple made their home in the Moberly and Huntsville areas while raising their five children. In the late 1960’s they moved to Warrenton where Mr. Fridley was employed by the Norfolk and Western Railroad, and then to Union where he worked in real estate.After she raised her children, Ruth went to college. In 1972, Ruth received an associate arts degree at East Central Junior College in Union, and in 1984 she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, where she continued to live for 25 years after her husband’s death.Ruth loved music and sang in her church choir in nearly every place she made her home. She was especially active at the Zion United Church of Christ, Union, and later at Central United Church of Christ in Jefferson City.
Monday, September 05, 2016Jones; one daughter, Patricia Smith and her husband Melvin of Wildwood, Mo.; two granddaughters, Melinda “Mindy” Smith Pollnow and her husband Christopher of Kirkwood, Mo. and Jennifer Renee Smith of Valley Park, Mo.; two great grandchildren, Fairfax Francis and Isla Marie Pollnow. A third great granddaughter is due in December. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Francis Andrew “Andy” Jones and his wife Andrea Gail.Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2016.A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 am Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Reverend Monsignor Robert Kurwicki officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Building Fund at the Cathedral of St. Joseph or the charity of their choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
