StewartMelissa S. Stewart, 39, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2016) at St. Vincents Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.She was born at St. Vincents Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Oct. 10, 1976, the daughter of Danny and Sue Stewart, of Folkston. She grew up on the farm near Folkston, and she attended Brantley County High School graduating in the class of 1994. She furthered her education at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro and Florida Junior College in Jacksonville, Fla.During those years, she worked in many restaurants and became associated with Pompeos Italian Restaurant in Fernandina Beach, Fla. She worked there until they closed several years ago. She then worked as an executive chef and steward in the private railroad car charter field and traveled throughout the country. She was also associated with Pablos Restaurant in downtown Fernandina Beach until her health failed.She leaves behind her beloved son, Jeb Stewart; her parents, Danny and Sue Stewart; her brother, Domingo and Kandice Stewart, of Oakland, Tenn.; her sister, Traci and Brent Whitaker, of Waycross; her aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Shepard Funeral Home, Folkston.The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Chapel Baptist Church near Folkston with the pastor, the Rev. John Boatwright, assisted by the Rev. Wayne Clark, officiating.Melissa will be laid to rest with her grandparents in Pineview Cemetery, Folkston.“We are thankful and blessed for Melissa. Her courage, her sweet soul and her example of steadfast faith. Let us love all those around us, friends or strangers as unconditionally as Melissa did. He married Thelma Ruth Taylor on July 31, 1951, in Waycross. In 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for nine years.He spent most of his life working as a diesel mechanic repairing 18 wheelers at Cummins Sales and Service in Odessa, Texas, and was bestowed the nickname “Peaches” for his Georgia roots.He was a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown, where he enjoyed playing Mexican Train with friends at Senior Game night.He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ruth Lee, of Georgetown, Texas; daughters, Cheryl Wilkinson (husband, Mitchell Wilkinson), o...
